What's the deal with the SV650 exhaust?

Honestly, the SV650 has to have the ugliest stock exhaust of any recent model bike. What the hell is going on with this thing? It's like 2 feet long, and if you remove the fender it looks even more ridiculous. Is there any explanation for this thing?

Doesn't it have the cat in it...my Z750S had a similar canon for an exhaust. Damn thing got hot enough to cook on and I frequently cooked bits of my leg and hands on it.

The reason for that long exhaust is noise reduction (and possibly emissions now)

can't wait for electric motors so we don't have this problem (as well as other things)

That generation SV came out in 2003.... all the sportbikes back then had those cannons on the side.

That's why I went with the Ninja 650R. No cannon and no *** burning undertail.

If you chose the ninja over the SV solely because of the can, you gave up some serious maneuverability in the twisties and to an extent overall performance, for something that would be your first upgrade anyways...

look at the other 2003 sportbikes. they all have exhausts like that. except for the cbr rr

Everyone keeps saying this. Here's 2008. I can't seem to find side pictures of 2009

2003 was 954rr and it most definitely did have the same big ugly can hanging off the side.

fair, I guess Honda was first outside the box on sportbikes

LOL

I don't know about that...

Kawi was first to use slipper clutch, USD forks, big piston forks, radial mount brakes, on the 600s at least...

Way to stay on topic.
Some may argue that bring track tech to the street isnt exactly "outside the box."

Not that the undertaile exhaust on the 600rr was.

Notice how this thread is about an exhaust?

Thanks for coming out.

998 had twin undertail cans, sure. 999 came out with the undertail 'box' exhaust same year as the 600rr..

Let's argue some more on the internet.
