Baggsy I feel sorry for you.
...because YouTube videos are the very bastion of truth. What happened at the G20 was totally out of order but 2 of the cops were arrested and charged with assault so at least the legal system isn't totally broken. However, in Baggsy's defence, many large lawful congregations of people recently have been hijacked by elements intent on looking for trouble. Whether this is just the YouTube generation looking for their 15 minutes, or people trying to get interesting facebook videos I have no clue, but it's a worrying trend. One thing though, I don't think these vandals are the morally high-grounded socialist protesters that some people might paint them as. What happened recently in Vancouver illustrates this point. While there may be social justice issues at the very root of some of the demonstrations, the vandalism/hooliganism does nothing to help anyone's cause it just heightens the sense of panic everytime a large crowd gathers now and it increases the liklehood that the police will up the ante where crowd control is concerned.

- Pull to the right as soon as it is safe to do so and stop, out of the path of traffic.
- Turn off bike, may want to put keys in pocket. (Seems like a good idea to me).
- Keep your hands in plain sight.
- Wait calmly. If listening to music, turn it down/off but be easy reaching into pockets to do so. (I've not found Canuck cops to be ridiculously trigger happy like many Yank ones but why take a chance?
- Consider turning on voice or video recorder.
- Listen to their instructions, consider whether any directions are legal and respond accordingly. I.e get off the bike if they tell you to, take off your lid if they tell you to, provide ID if they tell you to. Show them your boobies? Not so much.
- Most times, I do nothing other than remove my gloves. Taking off your helmet is seen by some cops as threatening and besides, if they are just asking where the closest coffee shop is, now you gotta put your lid back on.

Your #2 contradicts your #3. I don't think you wan to be putting your hands in your pockets for any reason. If you do, they will be bringing a beating with them.
If you have to get your license from your pocket. Let the office know, "sir, my license is in my pocket, can I reach in a get it?"

Every time that one of these threads comes up, it erases any question I have about why so many people state that they always have trouble with police. Showing respect, to an 'authority figure', isn't 'rolling over', 'bending over', or anything similar. It's simply showing respect to someone who has been placed in a position, in which he can exercise a fairly large degree of control over you under the law.
Being treated fairly, by police, doesn't require any of the Freeman garbage, that routinely gets spread around on this, and many other sites. It requires knowing your rights, under the law, being co-operative to a degree that is conducive to maintaining those rights, and generally not being an idiot.

Don't get it misunderstood. You can know your rights, apply them, and still remain respectful. Nowhere in my initial posting, or the video attached to it, was there any advice that suggested one should disrespect anybody else. However, if an officer should take your knowledge and application of your rights as disrespect to himself, then that officer isn't respecting you as an individual with rights. So should you offer a respectful attitude to a disrespectful officer? Your call.
You should, because being disrespectful not only doesn't make the situation better; it can make it significantly worse.

ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING????? 2 officers got convicted? thats your arguement for the legal system working? What about all the sexual assualts that went uncharged? What about them imprisoning a 16 year old with 39 men? Which I may add were all in a cell built for 10. What about the prisioner (illegal prisioners btw) not being fed the legal minimum or not being given the amount of water required or medical attention required?
I never said "youtube is the fountain of ****ing truth" I said do your on research and yes youtube does have the video on it. Which is smart because it is the fastest way to market your independent non-censored media.
Civil right were hugely violated and its because of attitudes like baggsy and jc100 that the situation will get worse.

I don't understand how it's a contradiction. I didn't say "stuff your keys down your pants". It's very easy for me to drop my keys in my pocket with my hands still being visible to the cop.
Regardless, I don't believe that in Canada (yet) you're likely to get smoked by a cop because you put your hand into a pocket. They're gonna get a fair bit more antsy but not likely to shoot you. I just think the less you do to get them excited the better your chances of a reasonably friendly stop.
But after hearing several times of cops taking the keys from the ignition, I don't intend to leave my keys there for them to take.

Real and significant, which is bad enough in itself, but those making claims don't do themselves (or us, for that matter) any favours with hyperbole. When people amplify their claims they bring their testimony into disrepute, which makes it difficult to effectively deal with the ACTUAL issues.
