What if my parking ticket "accidently" flew away in the wind?

I got a parking ticket this weekend when I visited Windsor... And I forgot it at home. Can I use the excuse that I never saw it? It's a reasonable excuse since it's on a bike, right? What's the worse that can happen?

After a certain amount of time elapses they'll likely send you a registered letter reminding you to pay your ticket. It would be hard to deny receiving that.

Is your intention to fight it, or to just ignore it?

Either way, you don't want to pay right off the bat.
TicketCombat, linked above, is a good resource if you want to try to beat it.

If you just want to ignore it, no one will come looking for you, and you won't get arrested - but you will have to pay the ticket plus additional charges before the MTO will renew your plates.

you parked on the walkway beside the doors, didn't you? :P

Isn't this a 'private parking' ticket, which has nothing to do with parking in the city? Some people manage not to pay those, and the tickets most of the time end up with the collection agencies, etc.

Interesting thoughts OP. The person citing the ticket must either place the ticket on the vehicle or the person. I wonder if you say you never had the ticket, could it be the same as the drive away method that so many people swear by? Since the PEOs cannot mail tickets, is there truley any record of you receiving the ticket?

Tickets are considered served the moment they are on the vehicle. If they blow away later or get taken by another person for whatever reason, that's your problem to deal with.

OP you need to post this in the Correct subforum!!!

And its stupid. Why can't they have an adhesive patch or a method of sticking it to your vehicle.

I went to renew my plates last year and had a ticket on my file and no idea what it was for. Was never mailed a notice of infraction or anything. Plus it was up to 90 dollars because of court fees (according to the MTO guy) and was originally a $60 ticket.

How am I supposed to fight a ticket I never see and never receive notice of? Was it justified or just a cash grab by a ticket officer trying to make his quota? I was furious but had to pay it as I had no options. The system ****ed me and the system needs to be fixed.

If they can't prove I have received notice of the infraction then I shouldn't have to pay for it. Tickets notifications should be sent out registered mail. No excuse for being thourogh

You'll get a letter reminding you to pay it. Just go to court and tell them you never saw the original ticket.

I once got a ticket, and didn't even know about it until i got the letter. That was last year in August. I didn't find the ticket until march of this year when I removed the side panels on my bike and it fell out. The meter maid had stuffed the ticket inside the right side panel, I only removed the left side last season to plug in the tender. Thank you, loser. I could have paid my ticket on time.

Just pay it. Don't mess with the guv'ment

Damn it..LOL. A mall cop gave me a ticket the other day at Fairview Mall. :(

If private property ticket, not an MTO one...challenge it/say you are taking it to court. The security co. or mall isn't going to pay OT for the security guard someone to go to court.

The only way you would be able to challenge it is take it to small claims court. Privately issued parking tickets are not handled through traffic court. You are correct though, that cost is a huge factor in how they pursue these tickets. Typically, if you only have one ticket on file with a private parking company, they will not even pay the fee to the MTO to look up your name and address (they do NOT have unlimited access to that information) and they will never be able to collect on it. It is very important that you do not give them any information they do not already have when you correspond with these companies.

Many private security companies are licensed and trained by their respective municipality to issue "real" parking tickets. And yes, security guards can and do go to court for them.

They can't mail tickets, but they can mail a notice of infraction if payment hasn't been received. And there will be a record the ticket being served - the PEO inputs all that into their system.

Cuz people would freak if you're applying some kinda adhesive stuff to their car.

That sucks man. Every time I haven't paid a ticket (and it's been numerous) they've always been quick in reminding me. This is Mississauga though, maybe Toronto's not as organized.

Thanks for your input guys. But this is what I'm thinking - my address is in Windsor but I now live in Mississauga. Can I renew my plates in Mississauga or do I need to go to Windsor to do that? And if that's the case, the MTO office in Sauga won't have record of a parking ticket in Windsor, right? Also, if they do send me a reminder, it would go to my Windsor house - so I can technically say I never received it. But I'm not sure if that would hold up lol. It's just so stupid - I wasn't blocking anything. I was on a median, not even a sidewalk.
