Can you own a motorcycle without a license?

?
Holy flaming **** are you serious? Did you even bother reading?

bike under dad's name with dad as primary rider=you can't ride most of the time without commiting INSURANCE FRAUD

bike under dad's name with you as primary rider=same price as if it was insured under your own name

oh right, but then you couldn't commit OSAP FRAUD

When insurance finds out you're the only rider get ready for $3000+ a year insurance. If you need OSAP you can't afford $3000 a year my friend. How can you afford school, bike & insurance? I stand by my original statement. Why even buy a bike you can't afford to ride?

Because I'm not paying for the insurance. And the quote I got was 2.5k prior to me even giving them a safety course proof thingy from my M2.

Also, nobody said I needed OSAP, don't make assumptions! By the same token, I never said I don't need OSAP, assumptions get you no where in life "friend", especially in the business world.

If your dad is paying the insurance anyway, what difference does it make if it's in his name or yours? oh right...

OSAP uses the "Blue Book" estimate to determine the value of your vehicle. You’re allowed to own a vehicle valued at up to $5,000 without it affecting your OSAP funding. Any value above $5,000 will be considered as an asset in your OSAP assessment. If you are married or a sole support parent, any value above $10,000 will be considered an asset for the Ontario portion of your OSAP funding. Certain situations allow for an appeal of this amount.

Oops, I should have read this first, then I wouldn't have accidentally put sand in your vagina. Someone close this thread, thanks!

Why not wait until after you get the OSAP cash then buy the bike?

Because that will be in September and that means more than half the season is gone. Plus I'm a 4.0 student and take anything I do, including hobbies, to extreme levels. If I start riding when school starts, that means 8 hours of riding, 2 hours of school, and good bye 4.0...which would also mean good bye scholarships =(

LOL I guess you just want that big student debt like all the other cool kids.

Like I said, don't make assumptions, I'll give you a hint:

ATVI(Activision Blizzard) is releasing Diablo 3, Modern Warfare 3, StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, and World of Warcrat X4 in 2012. Two of these games are coming out during the Christmas season of next year (ie. Q4).

This has a relationship with stocks, and stocks have a relationship with OSAP.

Though, judging by the fact that it appears a few people on these boards dislike those who "use the system" and want to everyone to "play within their own rules", I'm gonna get hated for posting what I just posted because I "don't want to be a kid with massive debt when I graduate and decided to actually think outside of the box".

LOL you own stock, want and can afford to insure a bike but need a way to cheat OASP? Use your 4.0 brain, hatch a diabolical scheme and report back to us.

Woah, where did this information come from? I had no idea that there was a threshold for that. I wonder if that's cumulative? (i.e. $3000 bike and $2000 car) This is very good to know if it's true!

Think he's planning on using the osap money to invest in stocks...thats actually kind of clever as long as you don't get burned.

Stick still in ***? I can do quite a few pull ups, chin ups, and heavy lat pull downs, I'm sure I can help take it out of your *** if you really need help with it.

How do you know my father isn't buying it for me as a gift where he places ownership under his name and let me ride it? You don't. Don't be a self righteous fool, please and thank you.

haahahahaha.... you can do chin ups and pull downs but you don't know how to do basic research.. you sound like a winner

Disregarding the whole "fraud" argument, I will answer your question.

YES, you can own a vehicle without having a valid license, you just can't put it on the road or ride/drive it for that matter.
I believe there's tax exemption if the transfer is done between immediate family but you would have to call the MTO and confirm this.
If that doesn't work, you can also sell the bike to your dad for a 1000$ and you will only pay HST on that 1000.

Good Luck!

That's correct only an immediate family member can give it as a gift. Just put down $500 and pay the taxes on that, unless the system has a value which you will then pay tax on that amount unless you get it appraised for less.

Just put it in your name, if its in your dads name insurance will have to be in his name as well. If not you will be lying to your insurance company and they don't like that.

Found it on OSAP's website after googling! =D

It's not possible to get burned unless you do something stupid (ie. investing in "blue chip stocks"). In fact, the money I'm using to buy the GS500F is residue from the money I made during the recession, which was originally from OSAP (recession causes stocks to plummet, what comes down most go up....especially precious metals).

Long story short, when the world panics, that's your signal to invest.

HAHAHAHAA oh man, you kill me... you invested in activision and you suddenly think you're warren....

you think because they come out with games the stock price goes up...
you don't have a clue 'mate'.. stop talking out of your ***....

oh wait... you might do a chin up and impress me....

Don't make assumptions...assumptions get you no where in life "friend", especially in the business world.

He claims to own stock, can afford a $5001 bike, $2500 a year insurance, an abundance of scholarship offers, but still needs my tax dollars.

Had 10k (from OSAP) to invest when I was at Western. Thank God for giving me a rich and supportive uncle. Precious metals dropped to 20 bucks when I bought them during the recession. When I pulled out they were at 40. Do the math.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I was using my TFSA during this. Hate more, no tax.

So you talk ****, and say nothing to back it up? Damn, how'd you get out of elementary school?

By the way, I'd like to thank the haters for keeping me entertained; I would be bored ******** being paid $13 an hour till 10:30PM to sit around and do nothing. More hatorade please.
