hey all, i got convicted with a 15 over a few months ago and while in the court i thought i got a 3 months period to pay but apparently it was 2 months and i now have my license suspended for unpaid fines. paid the ticket yesterday but seems like i have to wait 4 days before i can pay the $150 reinstatement fee (which is pure bs if you ask me). here is my question, can i ride or do i have to wait for 4 days. and if i do and have my license swipes, does it show as suspended (cause a friend was telling me if the fee is paid the cops dont see it as suspended anymore). also, if i have my plate run, is that attached to my license too (will they see an issue with the license only if the cop runs my plate?)
thanks

I had a similar situation with a car a few years back, called my uncle (who is a cop) and was told that ,yes, it will show as suspended until the reinstatement fee is paid. No way around it. If they run the plates they won't get your license information, however that's still a heck of a risk. If you do happen to get pulled over, you would get a summons for driving with a suspended license. I believe that carries with it a fine of Up to $5000 or something stupid like that.
Just not worth it - wait the 4 days IMHO.

thanks warden. as much as it sucks being 'wheelless' its not worth the fine.

Actually the OPP are able to get your license info based on your plate.
I was driving home from Montreal a few years ago doing the speed limit, doing nothing illegal, driving my very basic small pickup truck when an OPP caught up to me. He stayed behind me a couple minutes or so (wasn't pushing or tailgating, just stayed behind me at a distance where you could see my plates) and then he moved to the left lane and passed me.

About a minute later I see him pull over to the shoulder, waited for me to pass and then got behind me with lights on.
I pulled over and was told that my license in Ontario was suspended (turned out to be unpaid fines).
At the time I had a Québec license but with my Ontario license suspended, my "right to drive" in Ontario is also suspended.
This was 2 days before Christmas and apparently the OPP love me so he let me go on a warning (seriously, the OPP have let me go from so many different tickets it's unbelievable) as long as I paid the fines needed to have my "right to drive" reinstated.

When I moved back to Ontario a few months later and switched my license over, I had to pay the reinstatement fee as well.

I actually had a different type of encounter with LEO's. I was driving and got pulled over by a regular Toronto cop. He said my license was suspended and I cannot be driving (cage) at the time. I never received a notification for license suspension either, which was due to unpaid parking fines. Thankfully my buddy was with me and he drove the car back. While he was driving, we were pulled over once again. Officer says because he ran the plates and my license showed as suspended.

I didn't think your license could get suspended for parking fines, because those aren't moving violations...
I thought that for unpaid parking tickets, you just can't renew your plates until you pay the tickets.

Weird.

That's how it works now. They changed the law I think 2 years ago. Before then, if you didn't pay the fine, your license got suspended.

Same thing happened to me. I think they only allow your friend to drive it if the car is NOT in your name? Was this the case with you? Anyway, my license was suspended because I ran out of points =) Drove for 8 months, didn't sign for the registered letters, then got pulled over. Confiscated my license and my 6mo suspension began, let my friend drive my "not registered to me" car home.

No, the car was under my name. They told me if my buddy wasn't able to drive the car would get towed. Good thing he had his license on him.
