Upgrading from 250 cc to a 600 or 750...

What I'm getting here is I really need to get both of these bikes under me in order to make my decision since people seem to disagree with what the difference really is between the two.

The people telling you there's very little difference have never ridden these bikes. Trust me, the difference is big.

The only debatable part here is the fact that you're coming from a 250, so if you get a 600cc even that will be a HUUUGE upgrade in power for you. So if you jump on the 600 without trying a 750, you won't know what you're missing and ignorance is bliss. You can ride the 600 for a while and then look forward to upgrading to a 750 or a 1k in the future.

^ lol

A few bolt on parts will not get a 600 into 750 hp and a 750 with bolt ons will not get you near 1000cc hp. Even if you where to build a 600 all the power will be top end and would most likely be more useless on the street than it is now. You will never get the torque as the displacement is just not there.

Woah..750HP on a 400lb bike..that's crazytalk LOL

But I agree with mmmnaked, I am only telling you what a GSXR 600 owner has told me. To find out for yourself, test ride both of the bikes then you'll see what you really want.

Ya good luck.. you will be throwing some serious money to get a 600 above 115 PEAK hp without a built motor. The only low range you will get is from a gearing change any other hp gains will come at the top end of the rpm range.

my mistake, I was under the impression that you could get a fair bit of power out of intakes and exhausts to make up the difference

You might get 5-10hp, which isn't nearly enough to match a GSXR750 and to top it off, that extra power you gained is all at the peak, and at the possible expense of valuable midrange.

It's a common mistake. The upgrades you refer to just allow the engine to work as designed before the noise and pollution laws attack it. Better throttle response with mildly improved power throughout the rev range with a smoothed out fuel curve. The difference is usually very much worth it once you try it.

Might be more fun to go to 600, then 750 later, something to look forward to. Knowwadimsayin?

You both raise a good point!!!

i've had a 600 and a 750.

the power difference is noticably significant. think of the 750 as a weak 1000, rather than a beefy 600.

handling and everything else is pretty much the same. but the extra power means that you have to be more careful with the throttle on the 750 (it may feel more twitchy)

coming from a 250, with either bike there'll be an adjustment period. but i'd suggest the 600 over the 750.

Yeah too bad that they are not sold in Canada.

FYI -- In 2010 the gsxr 750 was not available in the US.

"American Suzuki surprised the industry last year by deciding not to import 2010 streetbikes while it tried to clear inventory in a depressed market. But for 2011, it’s rebounding in a big way with the introduction of a comprehensively reworked GSX-R600 and its identical-twin brother, the GSX-R750."

i was riding a GT250R until last year. this year, i have a 750. its an OLD 750 though. so probably not a good comparison. but i dont have any problems on it. if u r looking for a modern SS bike, a 600 should be more than enough.
