New girl rider downtown wants your advice

Just got my first bike. I'm a week in and have a lot to learn. So I'm looking forward to finding some downtown meetups, and hearing any and all tips for riding around in downtown Toronto.

For example... who do you signal on the road?

As a baby Ninja rider, I'm finding it tough to work out the politics.

:)

welcome aboard!

ride safe, stay alert

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new ride. Check out the "Rides/Hookups" section for meeting places.
Cheers

Welcome to the sure and the sport! best advice I can give you is always assume cars don't see you. Avoid riding in blind spots (especially cabbies) and always be observing your surroundings. Also... Try to avoid streetcar tracks when you can. If you have to switch into their lane, make a quick lane change. last thing you want is your tire stuck in there. Other than that, enjoy the bike and ride safe!

welcome, downtown rocks.. at least you won't have problem with parking ... i work downtown at front and Bay and there are at least 10-20 bikes parked on the front street .. and some bikes parked in the bicycle spots at various buildings.

Thanks all! What a friendly welcome.

And thanks RPM - that's right near my 'hood and I'd love to come by for a few rides and meet you all.

Wave at everyone!

And always wave back to little kids who wave at you...they are future club members! :D

Don't wave to e-bikes and scooters lol
I waved to a scooter once and the chick gave me this weird look like "what do you want?"

Kids, absolutely!
