Don't buy the Aprilla, I had one in europe (much cheaper there). They cost a fortune to maintain and require a lot of work and care. Than again, this is coming from someone who is obsessive about maintenance. They are amazingly fun and incredibly attractive.

Go for a used ninja 250. Don't buy a new one. It won't cost you a lot to maintain, you'll be able to sell it for nearly the same price so you wont lose too much money.

It's nice that you're starting off on a 250, the ninja is a great bike. I used to borrow my friends all the time because i loved riding it so much.

Best of luck with the bike and check insurance prices before buying any bike so you wont be shocked.

Haha thanks for the advice. Yeah, as I am realizing, the Aprilia will cost too much money. The bike itself is expensive, plus need to get it modified for it to be street legal + higher maintenance costs. Well, I would like to own a 2-stroke Aprilia some day anyways. I bet its similar to the Alfa Romeo of cars; everyone says its a great car to drive and you should own one at some point, but its a ***** for maintenance.

I am hoping insurance won't be too high. I'd imagine it would be relatively low to what I have seen here from other people? I'm 21, no tickets, but only got my G a year and a half ago. We'll see how that works out. :p

I just noticed something I didn't see before. Can anyone explain this to me?

That link I posted for the Aprilia RS 125, look at the "MCN Overall Verdict".

"The Aprilia RS125 has remained the top motorcycle for most right-thinking teenagers since it first rolled out of the factory in 1995. It oozes big motorcycle style, handles like a dream and in de-restricted, 30bhp, form the Aprilia RS125 can hit well over a ton."

30 hp? It says this thing puts out 15 in the specs. Can someone explain what this means?

I dunno if thats correct I remember looking it upa nd it was 15hp/14lbft. But considering a CBR125 only puts out around 15hp I would have hoped a two stroke to put out way more than that. Although the RS250 has been know to put down 50+

I wouldn't recommend the rs125 as a first street bike either. I'm not sure if I would recommend it as a track bike either, if you want a 2 stroke 125, might as well go for an unrestricted gp 125 that's been made with track riding in mind. The rs125 just falls very weirdly in between.

The maintenance aside, 2 strokes need to be revved up high otherwise they just stall, they're also very jerky on the power delivery. Learning to ride a bike in the city should give you enough to think about. I can't imagine sitting in rush hour traffic or just at a red light and constantly having to rev the engine so that the bike doesn't die, or at any slow speed turns or corners for that matter.

If you want to ride one of these pretty bikes, get in touch with George at Turn2.ca. He has a few of them for the ARC school. You could sign up for a beginner rider course with him and get to ride one. A friend of mine took the rs out for a few laps in the green group and he found it very frustrating. He said the bike was fun when you had an open road, but as soon as you hit slow traffic, the pace was unnatural for the bike and it was a pain just keeping it from stalling.

Good to know. Seems like a non-friendly beginner bike.

After you guys ride on the 600cc SS's, how does a bike like this feel? I have read many people's posts that say they enjoy riding the Ninja 250 because of its handling through the turns, so I'd imagine this would also be fun to ride after riding on a 600cc.

consider the zzr250's they are getting cheaper since the new model is out, look more like a 'big' bike than the new ones, and are fun as hell.

got the quote for insurance for Aprilia from Pilot ins co $277 a year the same like my crf250x(streetplated) insured with them

Anyone know the max weight load this bike is rated for? Can't find it anywhere online.

You must have had a lemon. I had a 250 and the maintenance was cheap. There's only half the parts to break, for one. Sure, you have to travel with a litre of Castrol Syntech 2-stroke racing oil, but that's no biggie. It's not like you have to mix.

I'd also recommend against the 125 as a first bike. It's a serious track weapon and a very unfriendly street bike. As mentioned previously, you either park it or ride it balls to the wall.

i have a street legal rs125. not for the beginner. as stated above it rides like a light switch

Aprilia rs4 125 coming out next year in the U.S. (2012 model) 4-stroke but whatever, takes styling cues from big brother RSV4. Sick!!

Old thread but who are you insured with? The personal wants $66.92 per month from me for it. $3 more per month than for a WR250X.
