Anyone got a Ninja 250 I can borrow for tonight?

Just got off the phone with my statefarm rep. The insurance claim would go to the OWNERS insurance company, but the insurance claim would be on MY record, and wouldn't affect the owners record or insurance.

WACKY!

I also asked if I could just add YOUR bike on MY insurance policy to absolve the owner of any responsibility, but you can't insure a bike that's not in your name.

That might not be entirely true. I insured the bike under my name while it was owned by my father (on paper). Had no issues doing it.

Hmmm. Was it with Statefarm? Maybe that's a Statefarm policy. Could be the same for the previous statement about the claim record too I guess.

I also asked statefarm the samething. They said you CAN insure a vehicle that is not under your name.

You can insure a vechiule that is not in your name as long as you have a vested interest in the insured, ie they are you kid or something, you cant just go around insuring random ppls cars.

Ahhh, maybe for direct relatives it's different, son/daughter stuff. Makes sense.

That's news to me. The way it works AFAIK, you get into an accident with someone else's car/bike/whatever, you're fully on their policy. Any tickets go to you as you were driving at the time, but claims will go on the owners insurance policy as if he/she were driving.

This way the owner is assuming a risk as well.
