Tire changing: How much is too much?

Any good places in brampton...i just ordered tires tonight from petes...i have talked to rosey toes and he said its 35 on the bike each.....but thats toronto, if anyone in btown can do it for cheaper, let me know...
.

Just do it yourself like I did.
Plenty of info in my posts on this thread, and youtube is your friend.

Buy a set of spoons one time and then mount your own tires for free, when you want, where you want. It's not very hard. Youtube has several videos showing you how to break the bead, pull the old tire and put on the new, no special tools required.

Not enough incentive for me to bother. It takes Ted 15mins without scratching anything and me just standing there in dress pants ... It's 20 min drive from Brampton.

Are you capable to remove the wheels from your bike? If so, it's 15 bucks per.

FYI, I went to Heritage Auto on Saturday and Daniel has a sign up advertising that he intalls tires for $84.99 a set.

Thats a fair price, the guy has overhead and has to make something.I paid $90 with tax to have a set of tires installed (wheels off the bike) at Brooklin Cycle 9 years ago. No wonder they aren't in business any more.I'm assuming $84.99 is with wheels on bike.

They took a year and a half to find a defective kickstand switch (caused the engine to cut out momentarily when hitting a bump during hard leans, NOT FUN!!!). Replaced almost every single part on my 2000 CBR 929 before finding the problem. Had it back for three weeks and the FI light started coming on and reverting to "limp home mode". They couldn't get honda to replace the computer. Said it was my power commander, I de-installed that, still screwed. They said it was my radar detector, removed that, still screwed. They said it was my neon lights, removed them, still screwed! It was in the shop for months, said it was fixed, every time I got it back I went to rip a wheelie and before the wheel even got off the ground "put put put" FI light =(. They called me early one morning "We just had a 2001 CBR 929 come in after an accident and it's written off. If you can be here and swap your computer with it within an hour then you should be good to go." Swapped computers, never had an issue after that! I dunno if it was Honda that wouldn't give them a new computer... Bought my 2000 CBR 929 brand new, in the 3 years I owned it I had possession of it for 83 days in total. Shortly after I got the new computer I fell off a horse and hurt my back and sold it :(

God I miss her torque :(

Told myself I would never buy another Honda after that. The blame might be misplaced with a crappy shop, but they did say Honda wouldn't replace the computer, and that WAS the FI problem... sooooo....

Yep, wheels on the bike and balanced as well. Surprisingly some people only install and not bother to check for balancing. Also tightend my chain at the same time since you have to when installing a rear tire.

since when do you have to tighten a chain when you install a rear tire?

Would you ever not tighten a chain when putting the chain back on the sprocket when putting the back tire back on the bike? To me thats like putting air in a tire but not checking the tire pressure. I mean, your right there.....

you do not have to change the chain tension when removing a rear wheel.

When you install the wheel, it goes back on with the exact same tension that it came off with.

If the chain is not out of adjustment when it came off, it will not be out of adjustment when it goes back on.

There is absolutely no need or reason to touch the chain adjusters while swapping a rear wheel.

oh ok, good to know. Well that just goes to show the type of mechanic he is. Since he is there he did for me.

I've made it law now that when I do tires to check the bike over. You would be floored at how many bikes come in here with either the chain WAY to lose, or..WAY to tight. I take the 5 minutes and adjust the chain to spec with the rider sitting on the bike. The better word to use is ADJUST the chain tension
