any luck out there?

looked all over the place (burlington/oakville area) ranging from fast food/general labour/customer service/random companies etc. nothing yet qq!!!!!

anyone know anyplace that is hiring seasonal full time? =]

I wish I could help out, but I'm in no better situation. I'm a recent university graduate; I studied Environmental Science. I also have a diploma in Environmental Technology and a certification in GIS. I've been applying to at least 5 jobs per week since January and I haven't had 1 interview or phone call yet.

I heard McDonalds was doing a mass hiring not too long ago since you said you checked out Fast Food joints.

I'm in the same boat, just sent out a bunch of resumes again today. Timmies is always hiring, pretty much every fast food joint is. I just refuse to work at one, but if you don't care, make sure you give the resume to the manager and call them up/ visit to follow up. Make them know you really want the job.

ya, tried almost all timmies and mcdonalds near my location. no luck. same with kfc, a&w, DQ. haha guess i'll keep looking

Office jobs aren't that many and it's too competitive. If you can get a job at school it might be easier. Otherwise, have fun in retail, manual labour or fast food... just don't make it your career.

Something must be off with ur resume/cover letter. U should get some call backs with that rate of application.

My daughter graduated from U of Guelph last month.
She applied, and was offered a position by a nursury on #5 near Burlington / Waterdown.
Her one and only application, and interview put her right where she wanted to be.

Did you apply to any of them yet?

Naw, I don't think i qualify haha.
I still in my undergrad at waterloo for cs, going into second.

By far one of the best summer jobs I had was pizza delivery. I am actually looking right now to do some pizza delivery downtown Toronto for fun. I will only do it with my bike and for some reason most places don't want that :(

^ This. You should have a few more sets of eyes give a good, hard/honest look at what you're sending out.

i mtaking on a summer student this year. You're not getting paid, but i promise you the experience and the company will be completely worth putting on your resume if you're going into anything related to business in your future. you'll also learn tons

Get your resume looked over again. Add a covering letter because it WILL set you apart (even if it's just a part-time job). Lastly, create the opportunity you need by finding out when managers are working and handing them the resume yourself + leaving a good impression.

If you're somewhat good-looking and have your g2, I'd recommend doing promotions/marketing. You can look for job postings on Kijiji or craigslist under the pr/marketing section. The pay's great and you'll meet a lot of cool people. You'll also get a lot of free crap + the networking's amazing for later on. Marketing teams are ALWAYS hiring because people in that industry tend to be really unreliable. If you're a hard worker, it won't take long before you start grabbing all the hours that you want.

If you're going to do fast food, I'd also recommend that you start looking for your next job as soon as you get hired. Students tend to be willing to accept ****** pay like it's some rite of passage - please don't do that to yourself for longer than you need to!

When I was in college I managed to get a job housekeeping at a hospital. Totally not for everyone (cleaning a room after they removed a body for etc) and it can be mentally hard. BUT I've got some awesome crazy patient stories and awesome stories in general and a new positive outlook in life and 5 years ago it was $18something an hour. My classmates would be working 30 hours a week to manage and I would work 16 hours a week and not just manage but get a new laptop saved for a car etc etc. If you can handle a little blood from time to time (actually the most blood I ever saw was an empty blood bag) seriously look at it for part time stuff.

Want to share some crazy patient stories? My mother in law was a nurse and had a crazy old lady pour a full cup of tea on her. The old lady pretended she needed something picked up off the floor and when she bent over to pick it up for her the lady poured it all over her.
