Hi,
Something really unpleaseant happened yesterday. I was out riding when I started feeling the engine lagging. It was behaving like I was opening and closing the throttle, but I made sure to keep it at a "static" position. A little later, things got worse. The engine was running at really low RPMs, so I downshifted to get the engine to rev up. That didn't work so well: Instead the engine stalled. The back wheel locked up and started to skid side-to-side.
I was able to control the skid and pull over to the side of the road, but the bike wouldn't start again. I waited a few minutes, turned the petcock to reserve and got it to start (there's a half tank left). I made my way home with the bike running really sluggish and stalling two more times. I just repeated that sequence and made it back in the garage.
I also noticed that the bike now idles around 2000 RPM! That's almost double what it used to idle at. Might be a red herring, but I can swear I could smell gas in the garage all week.
Here's the setup:
- The bike is fresh out of the shop for spring maintenance
- Oil is new, not even 70KMs on it
- Gas is new Esso Ultra (no fuel stabilizer left in the tank)
Any hints would be greatly appreciated. I don't really feel comfortable to ride it to a shop considering I almost wiped out.
Thanks.
