A 26-year old Sharon, Ontario man is dead after crashing his Honda motorcycle on Toronto's Gardiner Expressway.
It happened Saturday evening around 6:30 in the east-bound lanes near Cherry St.
Police say Jason Corey Gauthier lost control, hit the centre barrier and was thrown from his bike into the west-bound lanes where he was struck by a car.
Gauthier was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say he may have been in the company of three other motorcycle riders at the time of the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.

TPS is looking for witnesses. Noticed that one of the above posters noticed the riders before the collision, that info might be helpful the the investigation.

I knew this kid growing up; but haven't seen him in years. Having lived in a small town you tend to know everyone. He's a few years younger, but we went to school together. It's completely incredible and unbelievable. I was out there earlier in the day then heard the news.

I drove by the accident scene this AM - there is a terrible collection of badly patched potholes in the centre lane right before the skid marks. I've stuggled over those bumps a couple of times already this year and now avoid that lane altogether.
I can easily imagine how you'd be jostled badly hitting those by suprise. IF these contributed to the crash, SHAME on Toronto Works for doing such a crappy job of patching that section.
Further - the green vertical dividing strips that sit atop the concrete divider are all knocked down where you can see the rider crossed over the barrier in to the oncoming traffic. Why didn't they contain him and keep him from being thrown into the oncomging lanes, quite possibly saving his life?
I read reports that this crew might have been "weaving" before the accident, but if poor road maintenance and poor divider design played a role here - I'm very disappointed.
And further to the notion of poor maintenance - shame on Toronto Works for terrible patching jobs all over the city. In my sports car and on my bike - the embarassing and dangerous state of our roads makes travel not just irritating and damaging to my vehicles - but as we might have seen yesterday - this lack of pride in one's own work and concern for the travelling public can have DEADLY outcomes.

RIP - Problem with that specific spot is that it is right after you know there are no more cop traps and you tend to open up the throttle, bad patches on the road, plus a right turn that doesn't seem much until you are on it, all this maybe combined with a newer rider = disaster.

The Gardiner, is not a place to ride out of your limits. Any brain-fart and u can fall off. Every year bikers get killed on the Gardiner or fall off. Road might be bad so ppl should ride according to conditions.
