FZR"400" project build

Bravo my friend! Clap clap!!!

Really good project, two of my favorite bikes in one. Would love to see this bike in action one day, setup a group ride.

A long while I ago had a fizzer with an 1st gen R6 tail, you just gave me some flash backs!

Good work on the fabrication and build.

Thanks man appreciate the kind words...

So I still have some issues to iron out. Moving to pods has changed some of the power characteristics. She runs great all the way to red line, but near idle she is very jerky. This may very well be because I went -1F +2R compared to what I had before which is fine because on a 17" wheel is more like going just -1F compared to the stock 18" rear wheel. The top speed is around 225 according to gearing commander.

I am getting some vibration through the handle bars... more than I had with the stock front end. Same goes for the tank. I have the tank resting on a couple rubber pieces but connected directly to the frame at the front, so I am gunna through a rubber damper up front to help combat that a little bit. Otherwise she rides great. Still haven't really lean her over, but to the RPMs all the way up to redline this time though.

She isn't starting up right as easily as she used to so I am thinking I may need to adjust my A/F a little bit to accomodate. Anyone have any good links on how to do this? I will probably just end up pm-ing BrianP about it.

Still gotta bleed the rear brakes but I will do that when I get my SS brakeliens from Tony at BSR.

God damn the fuel pump started leaking. I opened it up and O-Ring looked fine to me... WTF... And it's definately the pump leaking out of it's middle and not any of the hoses or anything. I have never seen this before. And I have had tons of wierd breakdowns.

Well got that fixed up. Just used the pump off my old ZX6R but transferred over the newer yzf contacts it's the exact same mitsubishi pump.

Ok so I had a couple of small oil leaks and I just took care of them with new seals and such. No more leaks.

Paid Tony at bluestreakracing a visit and got my self some SS brake lines front and back.

While I was riding home from work on Thursday my Resevoir mount (aluminum bracket) failed in fatigue mode. So I need to devise a new way for mounting that. I have tried a couple of new positions. I think I have something figured out. I will give it a shot tommorow morning and get picture up the brake lines and the new mount location for the shock resevoir.

I also am going to delete my rear brake resevoir and just run it with a plug and leave a little bit of line to behave as a resevoir. I have seen this done before. I don't think the rear brake moves enough fluid for this to ever become an issue. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Aside from that I have been riding the hell out of it and it's tons of fun. Handles great although the suspension needs some set up as it gets squirrelly on me when I push it sometimes The current wheel base is 56" I believe stock is 55.1".

My only complaint is the lack of wind protection riding a naked. Otherwise I couldn't be happier with the final product.

Fixed a couple things today that were bothering me. I am very happy with this now.

So when are you going to pit it against a FZR 400 to see how quick your 600 in that fzr 400 frame is with all those mods?

How do you propose I do that? I would need the same professional rider to do two runs on a track with it. If you want to put the $$ up for it. I would be more than happy to let someone ride it.

why complicate things....take it out to a track day pit it aganist a fzr 400 with a fzr 400 motor...simple.....

your bike, you ride it.....

Becuase that would accomplish nothing. I don't ride track. The individual on the 400 would stomp me. A 250 would make me look slow. Plus I am not really trying to prove anything. I actually really enjoy riding the bike as is. Could use a little bit of supension set up, but besides that I have a great time everything I take it out.

Is that back SS line touching the swingarm? You have to be really careful with uncoated SS lines as they will cut into anything they rub against.

Did you get the tuning sorted? If not check out - http://www.factorypro.com/tech_tuning_procedures/tuning_carbtune,CV,high_rpm_engines.html, it is a labour of love to get it P-E-R-F-E-C-T, and imo you need an AFR to get it there, so you might want to pay someone to ride/dyno it to perfection.

I'll help with that -- / Bike racer with over 800 passes @ Cayuga will ride ....both
Bring both Bikes to Cayuga next Saturday -

Speaking from experience, repeated drag race style launches + FZR 400/600 clutch = badness ... My roadrace bike doesn't go through too many clutches, but it only gets one or two moderately hard launches per weekend and always before the oil temperature is all the way up, and it's got short gearing on it, which is easier on the clutch.

Besides, FZR400's were built for being leaned wayyyy over, this way and that way, again and again.
