York U parking

Just don't give them your info, meaning don't let the parking people link your bike plate to your car.. You can park anywhere u want with a bike in the summer... I usually just ride my bike right up to whatever building I'm going to... No matter where it is on campus... Never pay for motorcycle parking and just park anywhere u want, I've been doing it for yrs! We should meet up one day infront of the lots..

Fortunately, I only had my own old plates registered with yorku. My new plates were the ones that got tickets. Friend told me that they're talking about plate tracing... revenues are down they'll find way or the other to screw you.

Suscribe to this thread...I'll get a ride organized within 2 weeks. Oren's suggesting the Musselman's Lake area...

I think he's on to something. When I first got a ticket for forgetting to display my car permit there, I looked into whether or not I'd have to pay it. If they did plate tracing, as long as your bike isn't registered (aka never tell them them you ride a bike/it's plate number & never get a motorcycle parking permit)...they can't chase after you - unless you officially register, they simply can't prove that it's you on the bike.

I'm not sure if they've revised this, though.

The only 100% SURE way to get away with it is if the vehicle's under someone else's name. Then they get letters & bills that they never have to pay.

They can track plates through the MTO. I think they match address you live at with the address registered. Anyways, there are reasons why my dad is registered as the owner of the bike. :P

Remember if you own assets you can easily get disqualified from student loans.

York u, under no circumstances can do a plate trace! Haha they wish they could tho.. As long as you never link your motorcycle to your car or anything that is registered at York your good.. Trust me, I've been doing it for almost 8 yrs now and never have and never will have any problems.. I probably have like 20,000 worth of tickets on my bike!

damnnn i shoulda signed up then...

school is done anyways so thats the last time im gunna be parking there...but if i get serious about avoiding tickets ill just change my plate number, say i lost my last plate and next year just park anywhere and rack up the tickets haha..

i was just hoping they wont tow me or something if they see that im a repeat offender haha

they won't tow and they'll want the police report otherwise they'll call you on it.

U of Guelph tows and impounds if a given license plate (student or not) has any unpaid tickets on file. I'm surprised to hear that York doesn't do the same.

they do for cars if it's blocking fire route. Haven't seen it for a bike yet.

Not true. The ******** just traced my car's plates (which I bout in October and never registered with YorkU).

I'm going to look into the legalities of private entities receiving info from the MTO however, without a warrant (which you can't get as a private entity anyways). I'm pretty sure it's a breach of one by-law or another. Maybe even an infringement on some constitutional right.

But the main point is, that unless your vehicle is registered under someone else's name, they CAN and WILL get your info.

Just got off the phone with MTO.
You can run what's called "License Plate History Search" which will provide you with name names of all past and current owners of the plates.

So, YorkU runs the search, compares the name of current owner against registered students, and voila...

Another way to do this is to pay $21 at the kiosk where you renew your stickers.

So, this rumour has been dispelled.

good thing my motorcycles have never been under my name. It's better for student loan purposes. Anyways, just stop dicking around and park at seneca people. If you wanna risk it playing games then take the ticket cuz your lazy fatass didn't want to walk an extra 5min

Are they more forgiving at night?
Apparently they leave at 7 (according to York Security), but I've gotten a ticket in a paid lot around that time (maybe just bad luck?)

So far, no tickets after 7 in more "discreet places", so I'm assuming they do a final lot check around 7pm and don't bother with my secret hideout

I dunno... I'd rather deal with $20 York fines than collections agencies hounding my *** and ruining my credit.

Outside of yorku those tickets are worth the paper they're printed on. Once you're free of there let them call. They can't do anything. If the city gets involved cuz they want money it could be a good year or two till things get resolved and then if yorku losses all of your tickets are gone!

The city won't get involved and Moscoe is just grandstanding. As a university, York has a lot of power to control what occurs on its property and it has provincially-granted legal rights to impose service fees and fine penalties in connection with the use of its property.

If you're a student at York, you are in a binding contractual relationship with York University and that relationship defines what will happen you fail to pay debts owed to York U. They parking tickets they hand out are just part and parcel of all the other university fees that students are required to pay.

The one thing you do have right is "once you're free of them". Unfortunately, if you're a student hoping to graduate, you probably won't be free of them until you pay up any debts you owe to the university. This includes unpaid parking tickets.

Read the first part of their parking brochure. http://www.yorku.ca/parking/documents/Rules_and_Regulations.pdf

i completely agree, they're governed by the york university act i think. I was hoping something would come from the city since they want some of the yorku income. yorku makes 3mill annually from it.
