I dont think height is a huge deal, maybe when you're starting out, but there are plenty of shorter guys who kill it offroad on taller bikes (see: @Iceman )

i would say it's somewhat of a deal, i'm not a fan of not flat footing both feet on the XR :( that being said; i do have a short friend who rocks an africa twin, he deals with it!
 
Yep. I have a 31 inch inseam. Most of my bikes have had a 34 inch seat height, with a few hitting 38.5.

Me, on a 1290 Super Adventure R.

29" inseam, 35" seat height. One toe on the ground, the other waving in the air. Can just manage to get a foot on rear brake.

If you always need to get both feet on the ground, you're going to limit yourself from riding a lot of adventure bikes and dirt bikes.

My current ride has a 38" seat.
