The best lesson I got in woodworking was in public school. I normally got top marks but a machine setting beyond my control had a project turn out well below my usual standards and got marked accordingly.

A company trying to develop a super tree planted a plot and culled the slow growers or crooked ones but saved the seeds from the more productive ones for replanting. They also culled the ones that had been browsed by deer, theoretically a random event and not related to growth.

I feel sorry for the student but I also feel sorry for the people that have lost everything they have worked for late in life due to Covid. I feel sorry for the people that couldn't say goodbye to a loved one because of travel restrictions.
I feel sorry for the ones who have partners with limited life expectancies and they can't have one last vacation together.
I feel sorry for the Neville Lake family, losing their entire family future to a drunk driver.

It appears that the student wasn't shot, blinded or incapacitated by the protests. Theoretically in a year he can resume his studies. Yeah, it sucks.
As far as the prof goes, his bedside manner needs some work. Or maybe he has a problem that can never be corrected.
For the last few years I've been between a rock and a hard place with two friends. One is constantly running the other down based on information from a single source. The victim of the slander is hampered by him not wanting to air the family's dirty laundry in public. I became party to knowledge by seeing facts on a lawyer's computer and those facts show the problems originating from everyone else. However I have been sworn to silence.
I've hijacked the thread a bit but sometimes once ALL of the facts come out the story isn't as it was originally portrayed.
