Yellow Suzuki GS500E knocked over on Wellington Wed. Nov 14 - I NEED ANY WITNESSES

Hey everyone,

I rode in to work yesterday and parked where I usually park (street parking in front 420 Wellington near Spadina, in front of Bensimon Byrne), behind a CRV. After work, my bike was no longer on the centre stand, and was leaning on the kickstand instead. There was a note with the guy's email (no phone number, last name or insurance policy number) vaguely describing what happened. He had called the police and the officer who wrote the report left his business card on the bike as well as the other party's note. My clutch lever and mirror assembly was broken, there was a significant dent on the gas tank, another couple of pressure dents on the engine cover, and my dashlights weren't turning on. My handlebar might be slightly bent as well.

There was a very nice lady who came up to me afterwards who claimed to have witnessed what happened and mentioned she was a fellow rider (I *think* your name was Tracy). I'm sorry I didn't come off as too friendly as I was fairly distressed with the situation. So much so that I forgot to ask for your information. I'm really REALLY hoping that I can reach you through here. **OR ANYONE ELSE WHO MAY HAVE WITNESSED THE SITUATION UNFOLD.**

I'm contacted my insurance company too find out what I should do, I tried to get a hold of the officer who wrote the report, but so far I'm still waiting to hear back from him, and I plan on going to the collision centre hopefully tonight to report my end. Didn't want to do it last night because of I wasn't sure how safe it was to ride all the way up to Warden and Lawrence with my bungie cords around my clutch, but I at least made it home safely. I'll be contacting the other party later tonight as well, to ask for their insurance, name and number.

But before I go to the collision centre, I just need ANY WITNESSES, especially the lady (Tracy?) who came up to me.

Thanks guys,
F

***UPDATE***
As some of you may gave mentioned, a police report was already filled out so I actually don't need a witness. I'm currently still trying to get my hands on that police report, but insurance is starting to process the claim with what they have until they get the copy of the report. I doubt it will be a complete write-off. Thanks again for all your support and suggestions! My first time going through this so it was hard to know what the process was.

You're probably looking at a write off situation. I'd make sure to follow up.

Good luck!

Looks like you commute on this bike so it will suck for you but yes, they will likely write it off and it may take a month or so for the process. The good thing is that payouts are generally quite decent and often more than what you actually paid for the bike. (My friend got a $1,000 more on his 10 year old bike)

Sounds like the accident report was done on scene, get a hold of that police officer or his station for your copy of the report. If that is the case, you don't have to go to the collision reporting centre.

Sorry about your bike, but thankfully you actually have:

a. A note from the other drive
b. A report done by the cop and a report has already been done
c. An eye witness (who you can find if she's a regular in that neighborhood)

If the bike's a write off at least it's right at the start of winter. Not sure how low in temp you ride but it's supposed to get quite cold next week.

Anyway, get a hold of that officer, get a copy of the accident report, and go to your insurance.

Mine has been resolved in 8days or so I think, and I've been offered $5100 for the bike that I had bought for $4000 few months prior to that. I chose to get $3600 + my bike.. I rode to Cali with that $$ and spent it all in Vegas =)

Yeah I kept trying to get a hold of the officer but with no luck cause he was constantly out. So I went to the collision centre since the insurance company suggested it. Turned out to be a waste of time, like you said. Finally got the officer on the phone at 6am two days later. He told me I wouldn't need a copy of the report, that the insurance company would take care of everything.

So I called insurance later that day to find out that it'd speed the process up if I were able to get a hold of the report. Tried calling the officer back and of course he's out patrolling and off then off-duty til next Thursday. But at least the insurance is starting some of the process. They're sending an appraiser to check the bike out Monday.
