Got a 2011 CBR250R. I want to sell this bike and get a 600rr. Opening it up to peoples thoughts on price ranges for the 600rr based on mileage and year. How much life does this type of bike usually have? What mileage specific things should I be asking about. Is there a specific year I should start from (Newer is better I guess)? Looking forward to some expert opinions.
only way you'll know if a bike is worth it, is if you go and see it, looking for clues about the bike's history.
There is no magic formula for coming up with a value number.
New bikes mean nothing. that thing can be flogged like no tomorrow at the track...
old bike means nothing. it could be treated like a queen.
High miles, could mean it rode from vegas to here...low miles? not enough use perhaps on an old bike. could indicate there was an issue with it.
You need to do homework on a bike that you feel comfy paying for (like the price or is in your budget), then figure out if it needs adjustment based on your research once seeing it.
I've generally seen 600rrs go for around 8k for a used 2009 with like 15-20k I believe.
Newer ones have plastic tank covers I think so you can't use a tank bag if that even makes ANY difference to you. Exhaust position changed too so the "trunk" is even smaller and the seat toastier. Again, small diff between years if that will even work into your equation.
Are track bikes REALLY that bad to buy for street?
Not necessarily- but what has the track bike been through? This is what you need to try and discover.
Bikes are meant to be ridden hard. But how has the rider treated the shifter/tranny? Misshifts? how's the clutch etc....stuff like that.
You can't make a simple statement and expect all to be ok..that's what i'm trying to say..there's no one surefire way of ensuring a bike is good unless you saw it and make the judgement call yourself based on some good clues/signs.

Do you own one? Lets start off with the tanks all 600rr have a plastic cover over the steel tank. Yes you cannot use a magnetic bag stock but there are two ways to overcome this. One silicone or epoxy washers under the plastic or two use a strap style tank bag.
On to the exhaust all 600rr's have exhaust under the seat. Heat is absolutely not an issue infact most RR owners remove the factory heat shields cause they look horrible. Trunk is small but there are decent tail packs available.
To the OP 07-08 have a few more ponies then the newer ones. The also have one less plastic piece covering the engine. If you are seriously interested mine is currently for sale and is beyond mint. It has normal to above normal km but that's cause I ride not pose. Everything I current up to date maintenance wise.
