yamaha fz6r(sport touring) vs supersport bike NEED HELP!!!!

seeing if you guys have experience riding the fz6r yamaha.
first, I haven't rode for 2 years now.
I've ridden an 07 yamaha r6 and 07 gsxr 600. and Owned a 2003 gsxr 600.
This year I have decided to buy a bike again since my last time owning one in 2005.
Reason why i'm looking into getting a sport touring 2009 + yamaha fz6r is because 1. insurance is $75 a month compared to any supersport $160 a month.
2. I can go for long rides double riding my gf since she loves motorcycles without being extremely uncomfortable.

I'm just worried I'm going to be very disappointed in the torque the yamaha fz6r has compared to a gsxr or r6 has.
please comment below.
thanks

It'll be fine.

Although it's probably down a few ft-lbs, the FZ should have a flatter torque curve than the R6. Gearing will also make a difference.

Worse case scenario, just get an FZ1.

The FZ6R is tuned for more low end torque, not less. In exchange, it gives up power in the top end. Is that what you meant?

Might I suggest subscribing to the 2013 demo thread and when a Yamaha demo gets added you can attend you can then try the fz6r fz8 and fz1 for yourself no matter what anyone tells you nothing beats personal experience.

I just sold my 2005 FZ6.

I bought it last year for the same reasons you are thinking of buying.
If your GF will ride with you - Good bike.
If your INS company will charge you more for a sport bike - Good bike.
Check out State Farm, I pay $72.00 a month for anything with a 600cc engine.

However it turned out my wife lost interest quickly and due to family I wasn't able to get away for long rides as planned.
The FZ6 is a great bike to ride, it does have a lot of power in the top end and quite comfortable.

If you do go with the FZ6 get a after market exhaust... stock exhaust sounds like an angry mosquito!
You will also save a lot of cash buying the FZ6 over a sport bike.

If it's possible get your GF a 125cc CBR. if she likes it move her up gradually to a 250cc/600cc to ride with you!

OP is asking about the FZ6R not the FZ6, which is a totally different bike. As someone who has owned both bikes I can tell you that the R6 is more fun but the FZ6R is more pillion friendly.
When I switched from the FZ6R to the R6 the first thing that I noticed when I was 2up was that I had no space. My wrist would hurt and I felt like she was always on my back. The FZ6R was much more comfortable for her and by extension was more comfortable for me. The downside was that the FZ6R is a little gutless. You can ham-fist that thing all day and it's not going to surprise you.
Personally if you do a lot of 2upping (especially rides > 150kms at a time) the R6 isn't the best ride, BUT, neither is the FZ6R. If I was seriously looking into a sport tourer I'd ditch the R and look at the FZ6, FZ8, or for a sportier look you can check out the fazer.
Also, no matter what you buy check out my review thread of the vinxxgrip passenger handles. If you're going to 2up you are going to want these.

Rented an FZ6 in Germany back in 2006, I'm not a small guy (240lbs back then) and it had plenty of torque for me.

Having said that, just bought a new 2011 Fazer 8, great bang for the buck..

How about a VTR1000, they are classed as a sport touring bike. I've got one and they are an excellent street bike with LOTS of torque.

Sucks for a passenger though. I pay more on insurance on my VTR based on 1000cc (996) than I did for my CBR929. The VTR makes a decent real world sportbike though. Great torque, but lacking in the suspension department.
