Yah! to safety checks before riding!

I normally do a quick safety check every couple rides...make sure the signals/brake lights work, bolts are tight and wheels are in good shape.

Just found a nail in my rear tire tonight. The tire wasn't flat so I wouldn't have noticed until picking up speed and the thing flying out. Glad I checked before hitting the road.

Safe riding everyone!

PS. any recommendations on where to buy tired for a ninja250r? The stock have lasted me 18,000km

I have a big National race this weekend, and while going through my bike I found I had a bent brake rotor. I think I know when it happened, but I didn't notice it until I was doing another check of the bike. For about 2 hours of riding on the weekend, I've spent at least 5 going over it and getting it ready to race. And these are just normal wear and tear things I've had to do this week.

Bent brake rotor? Was it so bad that you could visibly see the bend.....or you spin the wheel and feel it hit the pads at a certain spot?

I was checking I had the front wheel on true, and you could actually see how warped the rotor is when the wheel is spun. I actually can't feel it when I'm riding the bike, but it needs to be fixed.

It either happened when someone dive bombed me at the apex of a corner and nailed me in the front tire, or when I stupidly assumed someone was going to be off the brakes after a certain point to hit a corner and I nailed their swing arm as I was trying to come in hotter and beat them through the corner.

When we went to run my GF's bike on the dyno they noticed the rear sprocket was bent!! Pretty bad too! I'm not sure how I/we didn't notice it when we were lubing the chain, but I guess we just weren't looking for something like that!

I hate missing the obvious stuff and having someone else find it.
Last weekend I somehow ripped off the rear mud flap (keeps the rear shock free from debris from the rear tire) and wouldn't have noticed it if a buddy hadn't pointed it out.

I usually run without the mud flap/"tire hugger"!

So what if the shock gets a little dirty ;)

It was on the mx bike. I just want to keep the shaft of the shock free from rock damage. We run some pretty rocky tracks.
Ahhhh mx bike. Might have to get one of those.

If you did a post ride check you could fix stuff at liesure before the next ride.

Yeah, I wouldn't have noticed it though as the tire wasn't flat enough yet. Bike was sitting in the garage all week while I worked. And remember folks, if your going to ride un-safe, at least delete your browser history before leaving the house lol

I agree with this 100% now. Yesterday I decided to remove my rear fairings to see if I can figure out the weird rattling noise I kept hearing while riding. While I was looking for the source I thought to myself "damn this bike stinks like gas" then looked up and saw I had a gas leak from my fuel petcock under the tank, and it wasn't a sow drip-drip it was coming out relatively fast. I would have probably become a big ol'ball of fire if I had taken my bike out. That would have sucked. Anyway problem fixed for now with some Gasket maker, oh and for the rattling sound it turns out it was just my tool pouch, I put it in the wrong holder . Now I'm always gonna give myself that extra few minuets to check my bike out before I leave.
