+1 on the sv650, the N version may be more up your alley, but again, if you can find them. They are scarce.
Round headlight, more upright posture, nice punchy vtwin, decent for 2up (better on the rider than the pillion unless they're also good with a bot of yoga/perching)
XSR (900 over the 700, due to not existing when I wanted) has always been a very desirable bike for me.
*Edit, the newer sv650x actually may be more applicable than I originally am thinking.
