I would like to replace the sprockets on this bike and was wondering how the different sizes will affect it but there is very limited info on this bike. Its a 1985 and as it turns out they only made the 350R in 84 and 85 go figure.

The weirder thing is that Honda made the XR350R in '83, '84, and '85 - and the '85 version only had one carb. The '85 version of the XL350R still had dual carbs though for some reason!

As for how different size sprockets affect it, the same principles will apply to this bike as any other.

Rear Sprocket: Bigger sprocket, more bottom end, less top speed. Smaller sprocket, less bottom end, more top speed.

Most people who ride single track run a bigger rear to get more usable power and gearing.

I think I may have jumped the gun a little with the spockets, the more I ride it the better it gets. I just got the bike on the road last week so Im trying to find someone or somewhere with first hand info on this bike. My next question is if the rear shock out of a 500,600 or 650 would fit my bike, I dont like the way the rear end sits lower than the front.

Yes, Honda did screw around with models/years.. i have a 1986 Honda XL 350 R, even though they stopped making them in 85.... (Stamped 1986 right in the VIN plate)... and the parts are not the same as the 85 or 84, tho it does have the dual carb RFVC motor
