wow, really?

So, I had two ticket back in Dec 2nd /2010. One for improper muffler and the other one is expiry sticker. The next day I went to court office to file for a trial date.

Then fast forward to yesterday, I still have not received any notice yet in my mail. Then I called the court office at 4:30PM, the answering machine told me no one was there because it closed at 5pm. I sent them an email to poacourt@toronto.ca to see if there a court date scheduled for my ticket.

Today, I was happily surprised as I just received an email back from them saying my offenses were withdrawn without notifying me formally. I mean is this normal? shouldn't i at least get something back from them to confirm this?

They just confirmed that the charges were withdrawn with that email...
No you don't need a letter signed by the attorney general affixed with a wax seal delivered by a guy in a wig.

if you never get a court date that will be your confirmation.

there was most likely a mistake on the tickets, like wrong month or something of that nature. or the officer did not get around to filing the tickets in time.

Perhaps not but a simple notification, that the charges have been withdrawn, would be in order. There's no plausible reason why someone should be left hanging like that, thinking that there's a trial date still pending.

this just recently happened to me too, but i got a beautiful letter from the city telling me so.

Actually was kinda scary, was a City of Toronto Financial Somethingorother on the envelope.

Everyone i know that had this happen certainly got a notification.

odd.

Yeah I am just saying that the email is sufficent, there is no follow up required. I mean all you need is something saying they were withdrawn in case they were not and he got it.

I would say that it was indeed sufficient, if the OP hadn't been the one who initiated the communication. It should have been flagged for communication, the moment that the charges were dropped.

Yeah, they really should have sent a letter but it all turned out fine.
Good on you OP for following up, the result was good.

Personally I never follow up because of the delay issue.

Maybe until the OP followed up they didn't know the charges were dropped? He inquired, they realized the tickets were never filed and dropped the charges? Just speculation here, but it would explain why there was no notification.

Keep the email.
Go buy some beer with the money you saved.
Enjoy life.

Its possible thats true, I believe Rob was saying "should" as in what would happen normally. There was probably some error here but definately nothing worth worrying about.

here is an update...the formal letters just came in my mail....both ticket were withdrawn, and there were no trial dates for those tickets...

time to grab a beer and celebrate.
