Apparently they didn't construct the whole gun, just the receiver. Still... they constructed the part that would normally have the serial number and is considered the gun according to US law: http://www.forbes.com/sites/markgibbs/2012/07/28/the-end-of-gun-control/

It's just plastic though, so I doubt it could be used to create the upper receiver. The upper receiver carries the bolt and holds the chamber. The heat, pressures and pounding from the action hammering around in there would destroy it pretty fast.
However, lots of cool stuff you could make with such a machine.

Correct.. Still not ready for the big leagues, but it's a good start. For now, this can only be used as a Liberal scare piece about guns

pretty cool stuff.. but as with all things, some will use it for good, others will use it for less savory things..
unfortunately we always have to account for the bad apple, so something that could be so handy for everyone (think someday buying something online and being able to print it rather then wait for shipping!) will end up having to be restricted (3D printers will be illegal for household use) because someone will print something dangerous, thus requiring a law against it..
