So my buddy was in school in alberta last year and he worked for like a month and a half and made like 20grand. So im really considering it for summer between semesters. I was just wondering if anyone had experience or advice on this idea. Where to go, what to expect, places to stay or the overall life. Any advice is great, thanks guys

You won't make $20K flipping burgers. What skills do you have? and yes accommodations are expensive.

Sask is pretty hot these days too. I hear that there's tons of construction in the Weyburn area... but also, the accommodation issues.

I have 3 brother in laws in Fort Mac. They make large money clearing about 3 grand per week. All are skilled trades and use their trade in the field. Cold as **** in the winter. They live in the camps so accommodations are included as well as all their meals. They describe it much like prison without a prison sentence. When you live in the camp you have to deal with all the personalities and they put up with the **** because living outside the camp is very expensive.

If you are young and single without kids then give it a shot and see what you think.

Get hired before going or go where they hire. You won't get a job showing up in Fort McMurray or any of the oil fields.

Calgary is where most hire out of.

Saskatoon is another place to go for good job prospects.

And yes, make sure you got your living accommodations set up first. You can make 20k gross but, it gets eaten up pretty fast when the cost of living is twice as much too.

Good luck.

Good luck with it. let me know if you need anything.
