My wife's car has a crack in the windshield and we do not have comp. on the car so no glass coverage (car is a 1999, why would we?). Anyone have any contact / deals for non-insurance claims work ?

Whoever you decide to go with make sure you take 15 minutes and do some quick research online. Not all glass is created equal, however the places who sell glass know that people are ignorant and will do their best to rip you off.

Recently i was in the same boat and had to replace a windshield. Called up apple auto glass in etobicoke, spoke to them and opted for a better quality glass than the chinese crap. The installer arrived at my door and attempted to install the chinese junk, pretending it was the better quality one, although i paid for better quality glass.
He told me himself that you're the first person to notice, they do this all the time...

Called them and ended up paying less and settled for the chinese one since my car was all torn apart by then, but it was a 150$ difference...

Akers glass in Bowmanville. Owner races an XR1200 and he's active in the VRRA scene as well. Good guy and he replaced my windshield last year.

Call Lou at High Tech Auto Glass. 416 540 6698

We used him at a couple dealers. He comes to you and does excellent work. Rarely had any issues in the dozens he did for us but if anything did come up he'd fix it no fuss no question.

Now for my business I continue to use him and still get a great level of service. He gets OE quality aftermarket glass and has saved me a bunch of cash on my Sprinters large heated windshields.

Tell him Torren sent you and he'll work you a square deal.

I have a guy. He's mobile. He can give you cheap glass or good glass. PM me if you're interested.

just got my Toyota Tacoma's windshield changed. $190 all in. My father in law got his sunfire's windshield changed for $200 all in. This is in Whitby.

Whats the deal with the Chinese glass? Is it good these days?

The windshield plays an important role in the structure of the car, when the chassis twists and flexes, the windshield should be super rigid. I've heard horror stories of Chinese glasses cracking under pressure from the twisting forces, or God forbid, if you get in an accident, and roll over, the windshield doesn't have the ridigity of the OE stuff.

Also, in all the years of owning a fleet of vehicles, *nobody* does a good job. I've used new car dealerships, "glass specialty places", and the guys that show up on your driveway.

On all my vehicles, a year or two later, I've always had some kind of rust show up at some point, usually at the top of the windshield where it meets the roof. It appears the guys scratch the paint when they strip out the old windshield, and never properly seal it, prime it, and paint it, when putting the new one in.
