was thinking the same thing ... I think there is something that attracts riders back to racing and unfortunately for TT and other races, the return is often met with an abrupt stop

Link is dead but I saw the video elsewhere. Mechanical failure. Some comments say the bike bottomed out and broke the sump, oiling the tire. Could have also been a blown rad hose. Terrible way to go as it was not rider error.
