Who knows about Smart Cars

So......Mrs. Wasted had an 'incident' yesterday and there was a relatively Minor front end impact to her 2011 Smart Fortwo. There is no visible damage to the vehicle except where the license plate bolts damaged the plate itself. She backed the car away from the inanimate object that she hit and thought that she had dodged a bullet. This morning she is ready to go to work, reverses, and then the car won't shift into Drive. It will shift between P, N, and R as per normal but that's as far as it goes. The car is rear engine and RWD so I'm sure that there isn't any transmission damage, so I'm thinking either a sensor or linkage issue. Does anyone 'round here know anything that might help me diagnose the issue. I'm good with a wrench and do my own maintenance work on my TDi, but I don't have any experience with this little things.

I heart smart cars :)

If you can't get it fixed easily my friend has a Turbo Busa Smart kit that'll drop right in your smart car :D

Transmission is shifted through the electronics on these cars, the only linkage is for operating the parking lock. I haven't had to do any diagnosing on mine. Does the display on the instrument panel display "D" - or if not, what does it display when you shift to the "D" position?

Try searching through www.smartcarofamerica.com

From what's said on the local internet group, best local dealer appears to be the Oakville smart center.

it coded itself out, likely a wrench light on in the the cluster. iv'e changed a few clutches on these cars, there is an electronic shifter that engages the clutch, if it don't see the engagement it will code out automatically should be pretty easy to fix. only problem is Mercedes wont help you unless you pay them Hugh sums of money to fix it. if you can get it scanned for codes would be a start.
