While changing clutch something broke off

I'm having a hard time understanding, but are you changing you clutch lever, and not the clutch itself?

Is the plunger the piece you broke?

Ahhh, clutch safety switch, mine's been broken for three or four years now. Only thing it affects is that you can't start the bike in gear, only in neutral. Or you can short the connector for the switch so it's always engaged. That will let you start the bike in gear, but will also let you start the bike with the clutch out which would cause the bike to jump. Or you could just replace it, can't be expensive.

problem with my is that it would stall in gear even with the clutch pulled in. I would need to give it gas first

Guess your bike checks for the safety switch signal all the time, mine only does when starting. As I said, you can just short the connector and keep in mind to check if it's in neutral before you start it.

is it still ok to ride it? i know there might be a problem if there is traffic or at a light

It's just a switch that closes an electrical circuit when you pull in the clutch lever to tell the bike your clutch is disengaged.

you could always just go to a dealer/shop and let them look up the specific part you need, check what's available and how much. then compare it to another place before purchasing. I doubt it will cost you much

Some bikes also use the clutch safety switch input to determine what fuel strategy to use... for example if you bypass a Triumph clutch switch, it will run so rich it will clog the catalytic converter. This is to prevent that silly after-fire pop and help slightly with emissions.

To the OP: yes it's okay to ride with it broken for now, but go buy another switch. Not expensive, not hard to replace.
