Which tires would you recommend

Hi all,

I will need new tires for 2013. I ride a Ninja 250. I am looking around and have narrowed to 3.

Continental conti go, the Bridgestone Battlax 045 and the Dunlop GT501 Arrowmax (dunlops currently on the bike).

In your opinion, which is best for durability, wet and dry traction.

If you don't like these, please feel free to suggest another brand or model.

Thanks.

p.s. if I get these online, do you know a good shop that will install them on my bike and do a great job and be economical. I am located in Scarborough, near Snow city cycle (they wanted $100 to install them, is this the going rate?)

You want to match the bike. So get the cheapest and smallest tires you can find.

Just kidding, pretty much all the tires you will find that fit your rig will be just fine. You can achieve peg scraping traction without getting a set of super sticky and short wearing tires.

i used to run BT-016s in 110/70-17 F and 150/60-17 R. I LOVED those tires. got decent mileage out of them too, I used to get 10,000km no prob. People will tell you to stay away from the 150 rear, but I never had any problems with it, and I really liked how the bike handled with it. Just make sure to go down a size in the sidewall if you go for the 150, otherwise it'll pinch the tire too much.

another vote for the Metz. Grippy wet and dry and decent mileage. Profile is a bit different for the front on the Burgman than other brands - tips into corners very nicely compared to others - not sure on the Ninja if it's the same.
ME88s I think are correct for you

Thanks for the input guys, now I have a couple of choices to pick from.

As for the cheapest and smallest comment, no problem, i am just as happy as anyone can be to finally be on two wheels. See you on the road in 2013.

quick question regarding the tires, Im currently running BT-016, and I looked at petes-superbike site and BT-016 has been discontinued for 180/55/17, but they have BT-016 PRO, any one know the difference ?

are S-20 tires better ?

Thanks

Aren't those the ME880's you've shown? According to the description on Motorcycle Superstore they are meant for heavy cruisers. The ME88's aren't available in the correct size, either and some Google results say the ME88's were replaced by the ME880's. I can't find the ME88's on Metzeler's website.

If you want stock size:

Pirelli Sport Demon (Hard to get)
Bridgestone Bt-45
Michelin Pilot Activ

if you want radials in a bigger size:

Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2
Bridgestone Bt-016
Michelin Pilot Power

For my 09 nin4 250 I've been looking at pirelli diablo rosso 2's, the question I have is, they have them listed on Petes' Superbikes as CBR250 tires.....whats the difference?

I will vouch for pirelli angels. 20k km & good wet & dry grip. It u can out ride that tire on your 250 i'll give u a free coffee.

I've ridden countless sets of tires Dunlops, metzlers, bidgestones & that is the best bang for the buck

Thanks for the advice...much appreciated

When I tried to replace the stock IRC's on my old 2009 250r. I was looking to replace them with the Pirelli Sport Demons. Everywhere I looked they were out of stock. 2nd Choice was the Bridgestone BT 45's again all out of stock. The went with the Dunlop GT 501's. Good tire. They actually came as stock on the 2008 models. There was also a comparision test done recently on an English tire review site. The Dunlops actually finished high up (I think they were tied for 1st).

I just ordered these up but not from pete's for my ninja. I think petes was just pointing out that this is the stock sizes for the cbr since it only comes in 140 for the rear.

Best wet and dry grip money can buy.
Pete will ship them right to Daniel at Heritage Auto. You can just ride in, ride out. He has the best tire machine around. Works great on the little 250 rims and won't scratch em!

+1 Sport Demons. Worth every penny.

There's really no "best" tire out there. They are all designed to do different things. If you commute a lot (daily) and for long period of time on highways (30min+), I would not recommend SD. When I had my SD's on the 250, I would boot around recreationally daily for 2-3 hours, and do longer road trips (full day and overnights) on weekends. And the rear SD lasted me close to 16,000 km. Good grip both dry and wet.

I had Daniel installed tires twice with Pete's shipping directly to the garage, and my price for installation was $84 for both front and back.

Based on that UK review, I decided to get the Avon AM26 road rider. I hope I didn't go wrong. Picked them up from Canadasmotorcycle.ca for about $228 + tax (front and rear)
