Where to Sell car?

I'm looking to sell off my 2004 Toyota Echo Hatch but the car is so basic and has a few dings and rust on it that I don't think I'll get much for it selling privately.

Is there anywhere (used car dealer or company) I can sell my car off to for whatever I can get? I'm assuming most used car dealers won't even take the car since its so old and they'll most likely wholesale it after (if that).

Thanks for any leads!

For a second I thought you were talking about this one but I guess not

In any case, you'll probably get more selling privately than you would to a dealer. If you don't want the hassle I suppose its easier to take it to the type of used car dealer that sells low end used cars. They are probably more inclined to do some touch up/ cover up work to flip the car for a profit.

I think if you price it right and the car is ultimately in good shape mechanically, it'll sell in time.

You could convert the Echo into a trailer for your bike :lmao:

Seriously though, private sale on kijiji/craigslist\autotrader is probably your best bet. Maybe you can post it up for an interesting trade?

You will always get more selling privately then selling to any dealer. Just throw it on kijiji, its free, simple and easy. Set your price, add "OBO" and see what people are willing to give you for it. Just be open honest and upfront about its imperfections, plus lots of pictures help to.

Any dealer is going to offer you a lot less because eventually they will have to try and resell the car and make a profit.

Just sell privately and have patience. Make sure you clean it up very well inside and out. Fix any small damage that can be fixed and be forth-coming about any damage that you do not intend to fix.

I had a 2004 Echo that I sold through Kijiji a few months ago.
I think it took me a bit over a month to sell it, but eventually the right buyer found me.

Sold it for $3300 as is for a 2004 Echo with 204000km, 4-door, winter tires on separate rims, automatic, no A/C.

Kijiji for sure.. I was able to get money for a 95 Jetta (ok it was diesel, but...) with rotting rocker panels, clogged heater core, a fuel leak, a badly fixed dent, a leaky door seal, bad brakes and like 320,000km. Just price it fairly, clean it up, take some pics and kijiji it.. Make sure to ignore serious lowballers and people offering weird trades or barter deals, don't even reply, just delete the e-mails. I'd be surprised if you don't get at least 3000 for it (lower end of the scale for that car). You'll be lucky to get $2000 from a dealer. Wouldn't you want to put a few hours of work for a g-note?

Best bet to get maximum cash is to sell it privately.

+1

Remember, the dealer or somebody who is selling for you has to get paid too

A big thing, detail the interior, when someone looks at a used car, that can show them how it was looked after.

I spent $90 to have my Canyon detailed on the inside. Whatever magic they do. It got rid of things I thought would be stained from a frozen pop can exploding 3 years before. Interior looked new when the buyer came to look at it. You won't need to spend money, just take 2 hours and give it a good cleaning. 2 hours sounds like a lot, but I could spend an afternoon (talking about 4 hours) to get my truck clean enough inside and out to where I'm happy with it... I guess I'm anal about it.

Under the hood, go get some of that engine cleaner that is in an orange spray can at CT. Spray it all over, get a decent brush and scrub, then lightly spray it down then turn the car on to dry it. Engine bay won't look brand new, but it will look cared for. It brings the plastics back to a new look and gets all the gunk off the other parts. I use that stuff on a lot more than engines, it's great!

Great advice about the dealers needing to buy low, sell high. So don't go that route. Patience? Spot on. Cleaning it? Can't go wrong there. Desperate to try these myself if opportunity arises. Seems every time I need a vehicle gone it burns to the ground.

Please pass me the details as well. I am looking for a cheap, reliable car to drive when the roads are too icy for the bike.
