Where to get a torsion spring for a garage door?

Checked Home depot and rona... nothing that works for me.

I have a single garage door that had a single spring that snapped.
Where can I get one?

And before I get lectures about how this is dangerous to DIY... I know. However, my door is very light -- in fact the opener can lift it even without a spring (although I won't do that often as I don't want to burn out the motor) -- so the tension won't be as high as spring found on a 200lb door, for example.

They have them at the Home Depot, there are tons of videos on youtube to show you how to do it. I got some threaded rod, cut it in half and used it to adjust the tension on it. If it a Clopay door, give them a call, they will probably send you a new one for free, free is good.

Check garage door suppliers, there's tons of them. Don't go to big dept stores. You still should weigh the door to get a proper spring.

Does anyone here have a recommended supplier though?

I searched on google maps, and a lot of the links are for repair guys, many of which don't want to sell just the parts. They want to do the whole job and try to upsell every part of the door while there.

From Redflagdeals forum I found about about Kriss Kraft Doors on Cawthra, so I drove down there only to find a locked door with no business hours posted.

Home Depot and Rona only had 1" springs in stock and were not suitable for my door.

My friend's brother installs them. I sent him a message. He should know. I'll get back to you if I find out anything. What spring are you looking for specifically?

I have to take another look at the spring for specifics, but it is roughly 2" diameter, 27" long, right hand twist.

Don't worry about it though... I found a repair guy on kijiji who says he will replace the spring for $90 including parts/labour/tax... and that is cheap enough for me to not waste any more time on this problem.
