Where to get a suit dyed?

Dyed,,, or recoloured? Dainese leather is drum dyed. You will only be able to get it surface dyed,,which in fact is surface painted.
The thought of getting the colour changed is even harder. we have been working with different products all winter to find out what works best.
But most of our efforts are put into repairing road rash and just bringing the original colour back.
Pending what you want would depend on the outcomes appearance and could make you suit look pretty weird if not done and prepped right.

Buncha years ago I had an all black Joe Rocket Speedmaster jacket. I wanted to make it a bit different so i got some white leather paint and made some of the panels white. It ended up looking pretty good, but any panels that rub against stuff (think stomach against the gas tank) will rub the paint off fairly quick.

The leather panels on the arms and back that never rubbed against anything stayed white for years and still looked good. Google "turtlefeathers" and see if they're still around. The paint is fairly thin so it took a lot of coats. 8 or 10 i think. But it did look pretty good.

Thanks John, well the suit is white...but its showing its age.....looks dirty....not quite as brillian as it once did especially when I put my new white vortice on...then it looks really bad...lol
is it possible to bring the white back up to new or almost new?

Thanks caboose I'm almost thinking that route as well but don't want a white transfer on my new flat blk tank on my zx10 :(

We should give it a cleaning first. Sometimes you would be amazed what we can bring back.
Which would have to be done if we were going to try to colour it. But I'll bet it comes up pretty good.
E-mail me and we can set something up. It probably needs a good conditioning as well.

After john took care of my suit with a cleaning and condition I was amazed at how soft the leather was.

I recently changed the colour of my teknic leather pants. However, I only dyed the area covering my quadraceps. They were originally silver and got them changed to black. A shoe maker here in Aurora did for $65.00. He did a great job, but I fear that a total colour change would be quite costly. He explained how it's done for those interested. First you apply a leather preparation product (essentially a mild stripper). You apply this product with super fine steel wool and then remove the residue with clean cloths. If the pants are multi-coloured, the border areas must be masked. The next step is 2 or 3 coats of dye, and the last step is a leather conditioner to bring back a protective weather coating. It would have cost me $ 35.00 is materials so I got him to do it. For a bigger job, it might be worth trying it your self.

To go from any colour to black is easy. Look for a "Black Shoe Dye" use to be able to get it in the grocery store were the shoe polish is.It's getting harder to find though.

If you want a do it yourself route, and going solid color you can order leather dye by the quart from Tandy Leathercraft outlets, based in barrie, store in mississauge.
Eco dye (water based) can be sprayed with a preval sprayer or airbrush. about $32 a quart
Fiebings oil based dye needs to be wiped on, its better (IMHO) about $40 a quart

both should be sealed after with an acrylic sealer, also avail from Tandy, think those guys have been around for about a hundred yrs.

How does dye hold up to rain and the elements? I'm a bit worried about uneven'ness. Should I be worried about black dye over white?

If you're simply want to enhance a black garment that is just faded, you can skip the preparation phase However, if you are changing colours, you must remove the original colour first. Especially if existing colour has a thick coat with no open pores. If you do not remove old colour properly, the black dye will not penetrate thoroughly. The third step is to seal the leather with a leather conditioner. This is what protects the garment from the elements. Visit a shoemaker and ask him about the process. He will explain it and sell you all the necessary products. They do this sort of thing all the time. If your white garment is faded with a lot of open pores you may be able to skip the preparation phase. Let a professional make that decision or you may have unfavorable results.
