Where to find black truffle tapenade in Toronto/GTA/Canada?

Someone on my Christmas list told me they wanted black truffle tapenade for Christmas. Anyone have any idea where to find this stuff? I can only find it on a few American websites. Amazon won't ship it to Canada and the one site I found wants $40 just to ship to Canada.

I know it's a random question for a motorcycle forum. :happy8:

Thanks.

Hmm they list black truffle sauce but not tapenade. I wonder what the difference is. I found another place that has the sauce, too.

I dunno, but I bet some of those specialty stores can steer you in the right direction.

Happy hunting!

Its a legitimate question on a motorcycle forum. You could look around the st Lawrence market or whole foods. But I'd probably make my own and jar it. The difference (somebody asked ) between a truffle sauce and tempanade , a sauce is just that, a tempanade is like a salsa, its chunky. You can buy truffles in the Cheese Boutique on Ripley off the Queensway , near the Kingsway. Expect to pay about 25-40.00 for a walnut sized sample, you can spend 1000-1500 for a black truffle the size of a grapefruit. A nice tempanade has black olives, capers, I like a little tomato paste and a good mineral salt like Himalayan pink. The smoked Norwegian salt is really nice addition on grilled meats. A lot of times people will use truffle oil in a sauce or tempanade, its a cheap way out, but it lacks the pungent earthy aroma of the real deal.

You might also want to try Pusateri's if you're going through the hoity-toity stores to see who might have it.
