Where to buy stock leather?

Does anyone know where I can buy pieces of leather in the GTA? I'm looking for a long (sleeve length), narrow strip of leather that will be used on a non-riding jacket made by Danier.

The story
if anyone cares:
Last year I posted a thread about having fallen off my buddy's bike at low speed due to cold weather, race tires and slick pavement. I was wearing the above mentioned jacket at the time and got a tear in it a few inches long. Instead of taking it to a leather repair shop right away like I should have, I continued to wear it and vowed to take it in the winter. Well, of course, I decided to put it on once this winter and accidentally caught my thumb in the tear and now it runs almost the entire length of the sleeve. D'oh!

I called Sandalman a few minutes ago and he told me I'd have to replace the entire sleeve as well as the other sleeve to match. Cost ~$300. I bought the jacket for about $500 so I'm not willing to spend that much to fix it.
So I had this idea that I'd try my hand at modifying the jacket to hide a DIY repair job (nothing to lose). I was thinking a stripe down the left arm might look sharp... maybe even add a reflective stripe/piping in case I stupidly decide to ride in it again . While I'm at it I might try sewing in pockets to hold elbow padding.

If anyone has experience working with leather I'm interested to hear your thoughts. Hell, if you just wanna bash me for crashing in a danier jacket, bash on! (I may regret this)

There is a good leather shop open to the public on King St. just west of Spadina a couple blocks. It's on the south side but I've forgotten what it's called. I know it's still there as I saw it a few weeks ago when I was in Toronto. When I still lived close to there I needed some thick white leather to do some minor repairs to my goalie pads. They had just what I needed. Good shop with alot to choose from. It seems they cater to other stores needs and also do repairs as well as sell scraps to the public. Definitely worth a visit. Hope this helps.

Make sure you make some chaps to go with it :agave:

Thanks Wingboy, I'll check out Tandy. At first glance it looks as though I might have to buy in larger stock but I'll give them a shout!

@Jampy: LOL sportbike chaps...

The cheapest option by far is to buy an old jacket at a thrift shop. I've picked up one for as little as $5 to have spare leather

That's actually a really good idea... why the hell didn't I think of that? Value Village just got added to my list of shops to visit. Thanks man!

The leather guy in the 400 market in Innisfil is pretty good. He might be able to repair it for a good price. Made an awesome custom jacket for my GF, in a week!

If you go to Tandy,be sure to get some Aussie conditioner. It's the BEST thing to treat all your leather with.Highly recommended by Bickle.

Stan the leather guy
Canadian Select Leather I think is his business name, also known as Leathers by Stan. Excellent work at good prices. He warranty's all seams and stitching for life. He made me a matching jacket and set of chaps. Very good work very happy with them.

He also has a retail store that is open during the week. It's on O'Connor north of St. Clair on the east side.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I've got a nice list to run down now :)

My brother says danier will actually repair their own jackets very cheaply as he knows someone who had hers fixed.

Dude, thank you! I didn't even think of taking it back to Danier. I took it there today and they charged me a very reasonable $65 +tax to replace an entire sleeve panel. They even offered to show me the new panel before starting work which I thought was very professional of them. 1 - 2 weeks and I should have a wearable jacket again :)

Thank my brother. He happened to be wearing his last night which made me think of this thread and ask him.

500 bucks for a leather jacket that's not a riding jacket... blasphemous. You can get a Dainese for that much...

It was more like $480 after tax. I thought it would last a lifetime until I started riding lol

That's a damn good price. A month or two after I bought it the same jacket went on sale nearly 40% off. When I was in there on saturday there seemed to be some deals in the mid $200 range.
