Where to buy a good motorcycle cover and what kind should I look for?

I spend a lot of time at the cottage and dont have a garage up there. So I want to buy a cover thats rain proof.

Though I've yet to actually use mine (never stored the bike this winter), the GEARS ones sold at many bike shops are supposed to be weather resistant, and are seen anywhere from $25-50 depending on size (and if they're on sale.)

My GF is using one for her 250R that's been stored in the garage over the winter, and it seems to work well. Covers the entire bike, even most of the wheels, and has straps to ensure it doesn't blow off in wind etc. There are vents in the top so that any gasoline vapors etc can escape, and I believe it's also to help prevent excessive moisture/condensation buildup.

(edit: I should probably note that this likely means it's not rain/waterproof, of course, due to the vents. But we hadn't purchased ours with rain protection in mind, more to prevent excessive dust, and people sitting on the bikes etc.)

I bought a Nelson Rigg Defender series for my bike...

rain proof and water proof are 2 different things...

looks like a quality product, but my ride sits in the garage so i can't comment on durability

it does come with a lifetime warranty though, that is what made the sale for me

I've got the Nelson Rigg All Season. Works great for me. Bike sits in the backyard all season, and it's protected from the elements. Never gotten wet through the cover, and the heat shield lower panels seem to work fine (for when I can't be bothered waiting for the bike to cool down). No sign of degradation at all, due to bike heat, or the elements, beyond colour fade. Bungies keep it in place too. Very happy with the purchase. Got mine at GP Bikes, but I know Canada's Motorcycle online carries it. I'm sure others do too.

This one is hard but try to look for a breathable water proof cover, especially if you ever cover your bike wet or hot. If hot, and you leave it covered, water condenses on everything under the cover and sits for long periods of time damp under a non-breathable cover and rusts the hell out of eeeeeeeeeeeeeeverything! So make sure any moisture can still dry even when covered. This is one of the hardest things to find in a cover for regular outdoor storage.

I have the cheap PA cover, but it's no where as good as the one from GEARS.

I'd suggest Gears. I think they are cheap too no?

You want something with a fairly heavy waterproof upper, and a heat shield style canvas lower. It should have a covered ventination panel, at the top, to permit moisture to escape. Grommets, to permit it to be tied under the bike, are a good idea in order to avoid having it blow away on you. That puts Dowco and Nelson Rigg toward the top of the list, in my books.

For something more permanent you might want to consider something like this or this though. They can be used for things other than bike storage too.
