Where is the RFID on your credit card?

I ordered a new credit card specifically so I could use the RFID when filling up at Petro Canada. I cut a small strip which included the silver chip part and put it on my keychain. However, the EasyPay thing didn't recognize it.

Does anyone know where the RFID is located on your credit card (Mastercard in this case), and can you cut it out into a smaller piece to fit easier onto your keychain?

How much more convenient is the speed pass as compared to just sticking your card in the little slot and pulling it out?

I keep my credit card in my wallet which is either zipped up in a tank bag or zipped up in my pocket. Then I have to take the card out of the wallet.

If I had the rfid on my keychain I don't need to take my gloves off or open anything. When it's hot out and my hands are a bit sweaty, it's not easy taking the gloves off. Yes it's a little thing, but I've been spoiled with the Esso gas tag and the now defunct Shell EasyPay thing.

i just checked 2 of my cards... my Zoompass card has a small 5mm square on the left side of the card, around where the contact chip would be. My other card has a similar indent on the back, directly under the contact chip. Might be there...

what happened to the old Speedpass key tags? do they still do them?

This might help:

Wobbly, I don't know if this story will help you at all, but I remember in first year when we were given our student cards (they had RFID chips to get in the residence) a lot of us wanted them on our key chains. We were told to go to the student card office to get the holes punched, because if we did it ourselves they said there was a fair chance we'd ruin the RFID. They punched it on the right hand side, in the middle

The paypass can read thru my wallet.

The only exception is if there is a swipe card from work which apparently interferes with the signal

Well it woun't be in the embossed area of the card, so that's 1/2 the card you can remove. Unless it's in the lower left corner but I doubt it because that's where people usually hold the card. Evidently it's not in the chip area either (at least not entirely). Maybe take the top 1/2 of the card and cut it into two pieces and see which side works? Hopefully one of them does!

EDIT:
Hey, have you tried asking your bank for this;

EDIT2:
From a google image search it looks like RFID credit cards have an antenna that goes most of the way around the card.

I used to do that but when I got a second card with a chip I never knew which card was going to get read. One has a discount.

My chip cards both appear to have the chip directly above the first four digit group.

Shell is the only gas station that has ethanol-free. Unfortunately, they don't have an RFID mini tag anymore. Interesting idea to cut the RFID part out...

You can't.

There are two parts to the RFID system, the IC and the antenna array. The IC is the little chip/bump you can see on some cards. The antenna array goes around the entire perimeter of the card. Without the entire antenna intact, the RFID will not work.

(Fun fact: If you hold your RFID card up to a bright light, you should be able to see the antenna. It's easier to see on white or brighter coloured cards.)

Edit: Here's a picture of one of my cards...

One day you'll see. It's dangerous, too. You just tap the card and you're free to go. It almost feels like you aren't spending money at all.......... until the monthly statement arrives

just don't create extra speedpasses to smokers. My dad ran my credit card bill up loading up on smokies lol.

I stopped using credit or debit for fuel and now only use cash to buy gas for my truck, car and bike. After the two instances where my cards were compromised and the culprits appeared to be gas station purchases, I decided to only use cash. I have had no further problems with either card.

Sucks, too bad. I don't want to carry a credit card around on my keychain in case it gets lost.

Did/do you use the same gas stations?
