not the wooden thomas the train variety but a real looking metal train that a three year old boy can play with and not break.
I've searched everywhere. ebay, online...noone makes them....

It can't be one of those electric model trains either because they are way too fragile and just too expensive...

Just curious here, but how would a 3yr old be able to tell the difference? My son was an avid Thomas The Tank Engine collector back in the day and they held up quite well to his antics. They're metal, btw, not wood.

I'm not sure there is such a thing as a real looking, non-electric, inexpensive train but I would suggest you phone George's Trains in Markham and ask them.

If he can't break it what can he break with it?
I saw a model train at KW Surplus today and thought it was metal but didn't bother as I'm not into trains.

Not sure what it is you are looking for then, I had metal electric trains when I was kid and they were tough as nails. If you are looking for the old bookshelf bullet airstream locomotives from the 1930-40s then you are going pay serious money $300- 1000. He's 3 yrs old, he's not going to be happier with a vintage train then he will be with a plastic one. Granted they were built to last but weren't more fun.
