What is your estimate?

Is this a backdoor war to get into Iran?

Anyone from Syria with some better insight to the real story of what occurring?

US is laughing stock. Dropping bombs won't end the laughter or save face.

This is U.S chance to make its own war case, produce its own "evidance" and completely ignore the U.N security (international community) and just bomb any opposition. This will serve the U.S as Syria is a solid allie of Russia and Iran and also a regime change will majorly benefit Israel since Syria isopposition at their doorsteps. They already orchestrated a military coup in Egypt after the newly ELECTED president (not a personal fan since it was another religious faction. but still elected), didnt fully co-operate with the U.S. Worst part about this one will be that its not going to be like Iraq or Afghanistan. Syrian conflict will drag many countries into it including Lebenon, Russia, Iran, Israel, Turkey in different degrees. I dont even get the point of the U.N when in the security council, Russia and China, both with veto power walk out and the U.S decide to unilaterally strike on its own! Whats the point of having this organization? The U.S is simply a big bully that bombs anyone who doesnt line themseleves with their agenda!

That's what people in power do. I don't think there has been an nation that didn't exert it's influence/power amongst other ones for their own personal benefit. Humans are corrupt.

I don't really care if Syria gets bombed or not. U.S. military manufacturers need another contract. Look into buying some of their stock in the near future!

All you tinfoil hats happen to notice Israel providing medical care to Syrians right now?
lets recognize that the good guys ( western countries) are trying to help not just bomb for no reason. Syrians need help in many ways right now including military action.
1000 just died by chemical attack by the Syrian government

yet the UN has not found a single sign of a chemical weapon being deployed. I watched the news the other day when they first said it was a chemical attack and all this raw footage seemed so BS to me...they were using a BVM(bag valve mask) on a guy who was currently breathing and concious..right...watch how fast the UN is gonna **** the rebels once they prove it wasnt a real chemical attack.

Everybody wants to help. Everybody wants the suffering to stop. If the USA didn't have such an abysmal international record they could pull it off alone. Unfortunately they lost the moral authority a long time ago. No matter what they do with the best of intentions it will never look right. Hiroshima. Or how about Nagasaki?

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were awesome

Moral of the story is that America will do whatever the hell America wants to do. They didn't give a **** and partnered with Bin Laden and Saddam back when it profited the country. Saddams torturing and killing thousands of people? Meh he gives some sweet oil prices. What? Saddam is making it so that his oil can only be bought via Euros and not American currency!! Screw him, he's been killing thousands of people time to bring him to justice!

Exactly. Drinking every night is awesome too. That also precludes one to not be taken seriously.

It's like using somebodys' name in conversation shortly after being introduced and/or repeating something of particular interest they have just said. It shows genuine interest and sincerety. OK, you've never said anything interesting but you do have a hot new motorbike.:D

I don't need to add my own irrelevant opinion on syria but listen to the words of people who are relevant...

If the American people are going to stop this war, they need to do it now. The following are 25 quotes about the coming war with Syria that every American should see...
1. Barack Obama, during an interview with Charlie Savage on December 20, 2007: "The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation."
2. Joe Biden, during a television interview in 2007: "The president has no constitutional authority ... to take this nation to war ... unless we're attacked or unless there is proof we are about to be attacked. And if he does, if he does, I would move to impeach him."
3. U.S. Representative Ted Poe: "Mr. President, you must call Congress back from recess immediately to take a vote on a military strike on Syria. Assad may have crossed a red line but that does not give you the authority to redline the Constitution."
4. U.S. Representative Kurt Schrader: "I see no convincing evidence that this is an imminent threat to the United States of America."
5. U.S. Representative Barbara Lee: "While we understand that as commander-in-chief you have a constitutional obligation to protect our national interests from direct attack, Congress has the constitutional obligation and power to approve military force, even if the United States or its direct interests (such as its embassies) have not been attacked or threatened with an attack."
6. The New York Times: "American officials said Wednesday there was no 'smoking gun' that directly links President Bashar al-Assad to the attack, and they tried to lower expectations about the public intelligence presentation."
7. U.S. Senator Rand Paul: "The war in Syria has no clear national security connection to the United States and victory by either side will not necessarily bring in to power people friendly to the United States."
8. U.S. Senator Tim Kaine: "I definitely believe there needs to be a vote."
9. Donald Rumsfeld: "There really hasn’t been any indication from the administration as to what our national interest is with respect to this particular situation."
10. Robert Fisk: "If Barack Obama decides to attack the Syrian regime, he has ensured – for the very first time in history – that the United States will be on the same side as al-Qa’ida."
11. Former congressman Dennis Kucinich: "So what, we’re about to become al-Qaeda’s air force now?"
12. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem: "We have two options: either to surrender, or to defend ourselves with the means at our disposal. The second choice is the best: we will defend ourselves."
13. A Syrian Army officer: "We have more than 8,000 suicide martyrs within the Syrian army, ready to carry out martyrdom operations at any moment to stop the Americans and the British. I myself am ready to blow myself up against US aircraft carriers to stop them attacking Syria and its people."
14. Khalaf Muftah, a senior Ba'ath Party official: "We have strategic weapons and we’re capable of responding."
15. An anonymous senior Hezbollah source: "A large-scale Western strike on Syria will plunge Lebanon virtually and immediately into the inferno of a war with Israel."
16. Ali Larjiani, the speaker of the Iranian parliament: "...the country which has been destroyed by the terrorists during the past two years will not sustain so much damage as the warmongers will receive in this war."
17. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei: "Starting this fire will be like a spark in a large store of gunpowder, with unclear and unspecified outcomes and consequences"
18. General Mohammad Ali Jafari, chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guards: (an attack on Syria) "means the immediate destruction of Israel."
19. Israeli President Shimon Peres: "Israel is not and has not been involved in the civil war in Syria, but if they try to hurt us, we will respond with full force."
20. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "We are not part of the civil war in Syria, but if we identify any attempt whatsoever to harm us, we will respond and we will respond in strength."
21. The Jerusalem Post: "The lines between Hezbollah and the Syrian regime are so blurred that Israel will hold Damascus responsible if Hezbollah bombards Israel in the coming days, Israeli officials indicated on Wednesday."
22. Ron Paul: "The danger of escalation with Russia is very high"
23. Pat Buchanan: "The sole beneficiary of this apparent use of poison gas against civilians in rebel-held territory appears to be the rebels, who have long sought to have us come in and fight their war."
24. Retired U.S. General James Mattis: "We have no moral obligation to do the impossible and harm our children’s future because we think we just have to do something."
25. Syrian refugee Um Ahmad: "Isn't it enough, all the violence and fighting that we already have in the country, now America wants to bomb us, too?"

This^^^!!!!
So spot on yet no main stream media outlet ever wanted to discuss it.
Saddam was creating an Oil exchange that dealt exclusively in Euro's. Many large oil consuming countries in Europe loved the idea. It was a direct threat to the USA's 'petro dollar'. Since the gold standard was deserted in the '70's Oil has been the only thing proping up the value of the US dollar. Countires have to buy US dollars in order to buy their Oil. Remove the only thing keeping up the US dollar value, and you have rampant devaluation, inflation and an absolute ***** show.
It might have very well destroyed the USA. All without dropping a single bomb.

At any rate, this was the supposed 'real' reason for invasion. Nothing else. Interfere with the USA's self interest and its almost certain they will find a reason, self made or not, to invade/have war with another country.

^ Pretty much. However news outlets don't want to get into the real specifics about whats going on.

Russia deployed 2 war ships today to Syria, this is not to attack Syria but to tell the US to stay out. Russia has a lot of interest in Syria and has already told the us to stay out of it "Russia sends two warships to the eastern Mediterranean. (Reuters" " Russian and Chinese officials walk out of the UN Security Council meeting in New York after U.S. Permanent Representative Samantha Power calls for immediate action on Syria. (Itar Tass)" " The Russian foreign ministry warned that an attack on the Syrian government could be "catastrophic" and told Western countries to show "prudence" over the crisis happening there. (France 24) "

Wondering where you're getting your info on the UN since they are only going to release their report today (Saturday). There's a reason John Kerry laid out the argument in favour of intervention on Friday.

To me the question of who did what to whom isn't that hard to figure out, it's how to respond (or not) that is the big problem.

For the US this would basically be a massive PR campaign to demonstrate that they are no longer in the business of propping up dictators, for the sake of attempting to moderate hatred of the West in the Middle East. This is the main reason why there is an Arab Spring at all. Assad being a dictator, they are no longer supporting him, but they are not supporting the coup to oust him either. That's the best way to go, let people decide their own fates.

The problem begins when there is a risk of genocide, as suggested by the use of chemical weapons. This was basically Assad dipping his toe in the water to test if anybody would respond. If nobody steps in then we can be quite confident that further WMD will be deployed on a much larger scale. IMO this should be a UN problem, but I can see how individual nations would want to intervene on humanitarian grounds (though realistically that is rarely the motive for intervention). There is a quite strong sentiment in the US that they dropped the ball on the Rwanda genocide way back when, the consequence of which is leading to ongoing strifes spreading into E Congo even 20 or so years later. Plus, Barack backed himself into a corner by saying a while ago that chemical weapons use would "cross a red line" so now he has to own up to his words and respond, somehow. Though I hardly see the US running bombing strikes like in Iraq. They should have good enough intelligence to be able to perform a targeted strike on military targets and then call it a day. But as Dr.Manhattan said, the US will do whatever the hell it wants to do.

The other side(s) of the coin is that the whole region is a powderkeg, as seen with Mali, Somalia, Congo, of course Iran and Israel, and with Egypt on the verge of civil war. Add into the mix Chinese and Russian interests, and things could easily get out of hand. Plus even if there is any success in achieving a democratic state, elections risks leading back to a dictatorship anyways, but one based on sharia that could be a step backwards after all that.

Looking forward to hear what the UN has to say today.

It doesnt take a genius to conclude Assad didnt use chemical weapon on Syrian people. In the past year, there were many instances that the rebels were making huge advances, leaving the Syrian regime trembling, specially in Hamma and Aleppo. In the most uncertain times, Assad didnt use chemical weapons even as his heads of military command were being blown up. Whether he didnt wanna kill unnecessarily or whether he was scared of the international response, he didnt use chemicals then. The pas few months, his government has take back control and is sitting in a very confident place while the international hysteria had wined down. Why the hell would he use chemicals now, knowing it is the ONE thing that wold bring the U.S in! Why is it so hard for people to put 2 n 2 together?! The U.S needs to rid itself of oppositions, specially as Russia and China are gaining power. Syria is a hub for Russia and Iran. Getting rid of Assad;s regime will block Hezbollah's lifeline, secure Israel's illegally occupied territories and the Golan heights even further, take out one of Iran's main allies and at what price? Syrian people's lives. If by now you dont get the imperialistic capitalism of the U.S and its corporate warmachine or its policies to push its agenda in a world that is gaining ground in its face, youll just simply never get it. A country that nuked Japan, used chemical weapons (directy and indirectly) in Iran, Iraq and Vietnam. The country that has solely been responsinble for over 10 wars in a few decades is now trying to punish another government for SUPPODEDLY doing a fraction of what the U.S did itself? COME ON! lol
