When should I buy?

Hi all,

I am currently saving up so I can purchase a 600cc. I've narrowed my search to two motorcycles - The CBR F4i and the Yamaha R6.

I was wondering when the best time would be to pick one up? It will be a used motorcycle, ranging from 2000-2004.

Unfortunately I will not be able to pick one up until at LEAST February.

Thanks

errr, after February?

Either way, I don't think prices will fluctuate much as it's pretty close to riding season again. So my advice, as soon as possible.

Id say buy one as soon as you have the money and as soon as you find the bike you want at the price you want.

And of course off season prices are better then on season prices.

Indeed... people start riding as early as march so ur cutting it close time wise

Only my a 2003+ R6..it went to Fi
unless you are getting an older model dirt cheap

All the yamaha fan boys are gonna attack me but if i were you i wouldnt buy a 2000-2004 yamaha r6. 1999-2002 have second gear issues, 2003/04 just shut off for no apparent ****en reason

As for best time, if you buy before it gets warm you'll probably get it cheaper, but you wont be able to test drive it in the freezing weather

Never heard that about the 03/40 BUT there was a TPS recall that I think covers that year also.
The TPS update is FREE under warranty from any dealer even if the bike is 10 years old. It's a safety recall issue.

After February because you are waiting for your policy to end/renew? I'd say wait until after you're 25 and at the end of riding season because nobody wants to pay storage fees but there will be alot of noobs buying SS bikes before checking for insurance and finding out they cant afford it then reselling at a lower price. lol.

You can buy now and not insure until then as long as you have a safe place like a garage to store it. I am in the same situation, I weighed my options and narrowed it down to F4i and R6 but I decided R6, excluding zx6r and 636 because the only Kawasaki I like is the Ninja EX300. As stated above, I've read lots of posts and ads stating that second gear is gone or has been replaced and listed prices for it were around $800.

Luckily, insurance and storage will not be a huge problem. Right now my conundrum is that I'm saving up. Come February/March, I will have enough by then.

During off seasons, how much average does the pricing fluctuate? I'm just curious because I will need to plan for all costs ahaha.

What turned you off from the CBR 600 F4I? I'm leaning more towards the F4i because it's apparently better all-around and it has a more ergonomic seat for riding.

Buy NOW. That's when prices are the lowest. In the spring you'll be paying 10-20% 'premium' over current fall prices.

I ride F4i, so I'm obviously biased, which bike to recommend. I rode every 600 for a few hours (except for R6 lol, which I just tried) before picking F4i. F4i is a great all-around bike. I didn't like how front of R6 was way too close to the rider, I could almost see front wheel when I sat down on a bike. F4i and GSXR were the most comfortable ones to me. Ended up going with F4i, as it has even more relaxed sitting position. Replaced (banana) seat with Corbin, and it's good to go for 2-3 hours without breaks.

(btw, 01-03 F4i have split seat, 04-06 have 'combined' banana seat, like F4).

Unfortunately, I will have to wait till at least February.. So February / March is when the prices will raise?

End of the season prices come down a bit since people don't want to deal with the storage.
If someone is selling around this time of year its most likely a forced sale and they need the money, therefore you can probably get a better deal.

Come spring the already highly overpriced bikes in the gta get even more expensive...

There are some deals to be had year round which is good if you are patient, but generally the best time to buy is now.

Honestly, I've ridden a CBR125R and 250R and just wanted to switch it up. I also like the aesthetics of the YZF-R6 a lot better, not to say they F4i aren't pretty but I do not like the headlight design and color scheme (especially sun faded red) as much in comparison. Personally, the ergonomics aren't a big difference as at my height.

If I was in the GTA area, I'd go take a look at this one (and probably purchase) assuming a mechanic said it checks out fine. http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-sport-bikes-2001-Yamaha-YZF-W0QQAdIdZ507559475

Come late February, you will see the thread about overpriced bike ads explode in popularity.

Find the bike you want at the price you want to pay....that's the best time to buy. If you spend all the time waiting for a deal it may never come.

the best time to buy is ALWAYS 2:37pm, it doesnt matter the day or the month if you but at 2:37pm you are golden!
