What's wrong with my 99 r6? Please help

I bought the bike 2 seasons ago and when I brought it home the first night by the morning the next day the battery had died. So the I went and bought a new battery and the next morning after that the battery was dead again. I then brought it to cycle world and mark did a step by step check with. Multimeter on the wiring and said that it was the stator and he ordered a new one for me. <br />

During the days I had to wait for the stator to come in I would switch batteries every morning and put the other one on charge so at least I could still use the bike. By the time the stator came in the problem had gone away so mark said just to leave it since it wasn't 100% necessary to change it and would save me a few hundred bucks. He said these problems can sometimes work themselves out. I was ok with that so I didn't do anything.<br />

So he's where things got messed up. I got in an accident last year and the bike fell on it's left side and I shattered my wrist. Once I replaced some fairings and little things I started riding it again except something wasn't right about it. The bike didn't have as much power as it did before the accident. So I brought it back to cycle world. They did a carb sync on the bike and it made it better but it didn't fix it... I brought it back for another carb sync and still nothing. The bike was misfiring on one of the cylinders, and sometimes when I would twist the throttle it would hesitate before revving. Sometimes the hesitation was bad. Now the spark plugs had been changed just before the accident but I figured there would be no harm in putting new plugs in so I did. Again, it improved but still misfiring, except it wasn't hesitating so much anymore. It wasn't until I unloaded my bike from my truck this past Aug at mosport that it severely hesitated again, but after a run on the track it was fine again. Well not fine, but it had stopped hesitating.<br />

So I have absolutely no idea what is wrong and why the bike is misfiring. My plan was to just replace the stator if there was a problem at some point and bring it to either riders choice or pro6 to get put on the dyno and see if they can figure out what is wrong with it. I figured I'd do the stator myself to save some money but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. should I change the stator anyway and then bring it in or should I just bring it in for someone else to look at?<br />

The good/bad stator shouldn't make any difference if you have a fully charged battery in the bike (well at least for a few minutes anyway). Something happened in the accident that has not been corrected, or at least that's how it sounds. Someone needs to strip the panels off and have a good look at the wiring, in and around the airbox, and all the fuel/vacuum lines. Just my opinion. If you don't want to do it yourself, get Rosey Toes or Frekeyguy to look at it, don't waste your time at those other places. Again, just my opinion.
 
i had the same problem with my r6, after trips to the dealer to carb sync/clean, new fuel pump,
turned out it was a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor) it controls the timing on your bike.
you can test it pretty easy, with the tps wires probed, and the key in the "on" position, not running, WOT should read 12.2 v (just a number out of my head, check with the book) and at 1/2 throttle 5.4v . mine at WOT was like 8.4 v which was messing up the timing and causing a missfire and slugish bike.
replaced an bam! whole new bike
 
How is going to two highly credited shops "a waste of time?"

Try the TPS and have a look for anything obvious first before paying anyone, you may learn somthing and save a few $
 
I agree, going to riders choice or pro6 is not a waste of time. But if I can save any money AND learn something at the same time then I'd prefer that option first! Thanks so much for the idea about the TPS I would have never thought it was that. I'll have a look this weekend. How do I get to the sensor? I'll look in my service manual when I get home today.
 
It's probably on the side of your carbureator bank. You'll most likely have to remove your gas tank and airbox but you have the manual, you tell us ;)
 
your first problem was taking to cycle world...i wouldn't let those guys cut my grass!!!!!
 
A bad stator would make it sluggish in the UPPER revs (not enough juice going to the plugs).

Off idle sluggish is such a loaded question it can't be answered online, but dear gawd don't go to Cycle World unless you are shopping their bankruptcy sale.
