Hey everyone.

Has anyone been to VOS bike sales or whatever they're called? I just called them about a bike for sale, and they said all their bikes are from the States ? Prices are extremely cheap too. It kind of worries me lol

lmao

Alright then, I guess they deal bad business and shady bikes ....

only reason why i ask is because, they were selling a 2011 Ducati 848, with 3500 miles on it for 13,000 ... :S

That is no great deal a little above going rate actually.
lmao

In case you haven't noticed, the USA has been in an economic pickle for the last few years, that has had people dumping their toys for whatever they could get for them.

Some shops here have a business model of buying bikes from the USA or elsewhere, then selling them here. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with that as long as all the paperwork is in order. If the shop is registered with OMVIC (which they should be and which you should verify), then you have a degree of protection against paperwork screw-ups, stolen property, etc.

thanks for the information, i didn't know all that until now :) But its definitely good to know !

One other small thing ... Nothing specific to this shop, just "vehicles from USA" in general. I have one (that I imported myself).

If the vehicle is new enough to still be under warranty (unlikely in this case, but whatever), expect resistance from the Canadian dealers to providing warranty coverage on something that they didn't originally sell. Some manufacturers are OK with this, others are not, there is no pattern that I can tell. Some manufacturers use this as a de-facto trade barrier, to discourage people from doing cross-border shopping. "You'll have to take that up with an American dealer, sir. We didn't sell that bike in the first place, so it's not our responsibility".

If the vehicle corresponds EXACTLY in every detail to a model sold here, you should not have trouble getting parts. I have a 1990 Yamaha FZR400 that I imported, and that model year was never sold in Canada. The bodywork is different colours from the models sold here and there are certain parts (swingarm, brake calipers) on that model year that were on no corresponding vehicle sold in Canada. From Yamaha Motor Canada's point of view, the bike that I have doesn't exist. Can't get parts for it. Nothing's in the system. Nothing available at any price. For stuff that I know is the same as a 1989 (which was sold here), I just tell them it's a 1989. For other stuff, I have to order it online from the USA. Not that this presents any great difficulty these days ... but you can't just go into a Canadian dealer and order parts for something that wasn't originally sold in Canada.

I actually had this issue with a car that I purchased from a dealer here in toronto, they brought a car in from the states, the Model was sold here in canada, however the year of the car wasn't. So i completely understand what you're saying !
