What should I be paying?

Ok, so I'm shopping now, insurance company is on board, and I've decided on a 2005-2008 Kawasaki ZX6R.

I've seen 2005s for $4500-6000 and 2008s for $5000-6500. All over the map with KMs, some low KM bikes are in the middle price, some higher (30k+) KM bikes are on the high price range.

What's with the overlap? Was there a lot of optional equipment from the factory? Any thoughts?

At the end of the day, I'm just getting back in the game and will have this bike for 2-3 years tops - and like anyone, value is important. I remember my CBR 600F4i and they were all about the same price, but there were no individual "models" just color differences.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Scott

Well the 05 06 are the 636's and the 07 08 are the 600's so take a look into that first of all.... insurance is most probably higher on the 636 as some look at displacement.

I say go ahead and get a 07 for the 5.5ish grand price under 30k

Thanks for the input, the CC surprisingly barely effects the insurance rate, the 636 is slightly cheaper actually.

Your insurance will be alot higher on the 636's (if you're with SF anyway). The bikes are classified close to the 750's. So using myself as an example when I was shopping for the 636, the 600's were $120/month. Whereas, the 636's were $148/month so you definitely want to weight out the prices based on the insurance premiums.

I've already got a firm quote from the insurance company I've been with for the past 10 years of $1380/year - $115/month for the 636 (slightly more for the newer and "more expensive" 600). Insurance is actually the easy part. The strange discrepancy between why the older bikes are as or more expensive than the newer ones is the problem I'm dealing with right now.

Either way in the next week or two I'll decide on a bike, just want some input on where I should be in terms of buying a used bike. I don't want to be at $5500 when a bike should've been $4500. You know?

Age, type of bike and location are your problems.

Now back to OP.

Get the best condition low km bike you can find and then go have fun.

I called her, unfortunetly the companys she deals with dont take supersport bikes , basically any model that has a letter 'r' in it

Yeah we are screwed when it comes to trying to find insurance for Super Sport bikes, I went with State Farm and got a really good rate for being a new rider and having just gotten my M1. I am also 36, have had my drivers license for 20 years and have NO accidents or tickets for that fact.
