What are the best features in a track trailer?

Hey All.

I have started a new project, trying to build myself the ultimate track trailer.

I am starting with a standard open frame. 16 ft long, 6 ft wide. The square section over the axle is 6 by 7 feet. The V shape at the front is about 8 feet.

Over the axle I am mounting 3 chocks.

So the question I am asking and looking for input on, what are the some of the best features, designs I could incorporate into it? Either PM or post on the thread with input.

Thanks

Pitbull trailer restraints (for rear tire), awesome.

-Jamie M.

-Bearing buddies
-Ramp/s light enough for your girl to operate on her own
-Wire in a spotlight
-Lock in your tool-chest in case trailer left over night loaded (also make sure chest loaded in a way you don't have to move it to get access to all tools without moving chest the day it's needed).
-A battery box with deep-cycle battery (it can be charged up just before using trailer and on the day of use it can run plenty of things like lights, stereo, compressor, tools, etc).
-Marine or outdoor stereo (easier/cheaper than it sounds)
-A cover and places for tie-down of tarp (if that is something that interests you)

Design in a place for all the major things you plan to bring along - tires, stands, generator, tool box - and design a big box to carry all the odds and ends. Build in a place for a ramp. Build in at least one spare tire for the trailer.

Build in options for tie down straps to attach to. Wheel chocks and PitBull restraints are ideal when it is possible to use them but take care of the possibility that they may not necessarily work on every conceivable bike and/or may need adjustment or repositioning.

Pay attention to the ground clearance that the bike needs when it crosses between the top of the ramp and the end of the trailer.

Mine is a whole lot smaller than yours, but it's designed to be towed behind a car. Can carry either one bike in the middle or two bikes, one on each side. It uses coil springs and hydraulic shock absorbers with a linkage to locate the axle ... cratered roads in Quebec or Michigan are no problem.

things to note: Upper and lower hooks for front tie-downs or they can be hooked to the triangulated reinforcements in the wheel tracks, there is another set of tie-down hooks behind the axle, there is a support rail for the toolbox on one side and a gas can on the other side, two spare trailer wheels stored underneath at the back, storage box is big enough for tires to be stored either lying flat or standing up plus stands plus canopy, and the bikes are centered slightly behind the trailer axle to counterbalance the storage box. If I were to do it again, I'd build in wheel chocks for the front wheel ... when I built this trailer about 15 years ago, those were not in common use.

This trailer has at least 150,000 km on it! It has been awesome.

I would use the rubber torsion type suspension. The axle(s) can be used as a frame stiffener and it can ride lower if that's important. Of course a Luggable Loo goes without saying.
