Wet Leather

So, I got caught in the rain today. My leather gloves and boots are soaked.

What is the best way to dry my gear without damaging it? Should I put them near a heater?

No. Put them by a dehumidifier. It's leather they'll be fine. Don't put them by a heater because I don't think rapid uneven heat drying is good for it.

My boots and gloves got soaked too. Though I didn't care very much. Gloves are cheap and the boots are at least 20 years old. Pack a second pair of socks in your bag for tomorrow.

Lay flat, don't hang

Sorry but the only way to dry leather is to wear it until it drip drys so that it forms perfectly to your body, anything else will ruin them beyond repair! :p
But seriously just hang them up so they can drip without getting stinky the next day

can't help with the leather question but kid arrived looking like a drowned rat - fortunately I had bought a Dri-Rider Jacket from Australia for him so part stayed dry.

Any tips on drying out armored leather gloves??

Don't hang, you'll distort the shape.
It'll stretch to one side.

edit: Nevermind, I'm in General, I'll show myself out

Bake it in the sun when you get a chance.

...I got ring worms last year all over my torso and legs from my soaked gear, kill the damn parasites!

Any tips for making dry armored leather gloves, supple again?

Google leather conditioner, Aussie is a good one. Last time we were in Deals I got some local stuff, lots of beeswax in it. Helps make em semi resistant to water too.

Talk to John Bickle about leather conditioner. As for drying as others said, let them sit at room temperature and dry out or stick them near a dehumidifier. Heat will shrink the leather.

THe one time i got completely soaked (i then found a water proof windbreaker that fits over my jacket) i put it in a small room witha heater in one corner, and the jacket in the opposite cornner, and it took about 9 or 10 hours to dry it out. :S

This was definitely an issue after getting caught in a downpour on the 400 on Sunday.

Gloves and boots seem to be ok. The jacket is fine and just needs to dry and be reconditioned properly. I have some great leather conditioner but after contacting the manufacturer of the jacket and leather conditioner, I found out that the jacket needs something safe for both aniline and nubuck leather. The conditioner I have is great for aniline leather but would have killed the nubuck. Who knew?

I cleaned off the crusty "tide mark" with warm water and a cloth. The jacket took a day and a half to dry, flat on a towel. Once dry I'll clean and re-condition with an appropriate product.
