Weird noise as I open throttle

The engine (?) on my Ninja 250r has been making a non-periodical, strange clicking noise, as I let the clutch out and jam on the throttle.

I suspect that it is the engine because I can feel these clicks on the seat and on the tank as well. It's sort of a click noise and impact that you would get on knocking on a table (or wood etc.) very gently. It's not quite a bang, but it's clicking. Not a high pitch noise, not a low one either... kinda in the middle.

It doesn't really have a pattern either, but I never heard it over 5K rpm. It slowly disappears as I rev up. At the same time tho, I cannot say that the clicking noise gets denser as the rpm gets lower.

The frequency is on avg. 1-2clicks/second and goes for 2-3 seconds, then disappears.

I am not really looking for a certain diagnosis obviously since it is probably hard to understand what the situation is from my description, but just trying to hear out theories. Any ideas ?

Cam chain is a chain inside your engine, or it might just be your drive chain. Try adjusting that so it is not loose then try.

I will get a brand new drive-chain over the winter for next season. But I think I will ask if there is anyone here, whom I could ride to for a pro opinion of the problem.

I push my bike for hours at times, to over 140km/h at 10k+ rpm... I wonder how much longer my Ninja 250 can survive that..

Possibly chain sprockets are worn down so much the drive chain is slipping.

Wouldn't that be really loud and show traces of unstable rpm readings ?

Might be a tight spot in your chain. Get moving to a speed around 60km/h and then pull in the clutch and coast. You'll hear a clack clack clack as the chain goes round which will get slower as you lose speed.

Does the clicking happen also happen after the bike is turned off? My 250R used to do that all the time and I think I know what you are talking about.
When I heard it, it sounded like it was coming from around the area where the exhaust can was mounted (while the bike was off). Seemed completely normal

I've been only hearing the clicks during right after releasing the clutch and opening a lot of throttle for some strange reason... But inspired of your theory, I investigated the condition of the drive-chain and cleaned/lubed it, and the clicking is gone =)

I'm relieved that the problem was such a small issue. Thanks !
