Weed Vape Pens....anyone use? Anyone know much info on it?

Hello again! So was talking with a guy at work recently (older dude in his 50s) and he was going on and on about the virtues of cannabis oils and the weed vape pen that he's using. I started doing some research and not really sure what to make of it.

I'm curious to try it, but don't know whether this stuff is safe, is there any regulation? I believe cannabis oil is NOT legal in Canada as far as I can tell, and the only vape pens I've personally seen take the plant material and burn them (i.e.: PAX3 that a buddy has).

Just curious to see if anyone's into it? What do you look for? What do you recommend? One benefit is obviously the lack of smell / smoke from it, but sometimes it's best to just have a normal joint.

I have a co worker that gets the oil from the Canadian legal website. The pen came from the states.
She says it's much more mellow than a joint or edible and is excellent for helping her sleep

They are great but are expensive if you vape a lot - I much prefer the concentrate vapes (such as Source Orb 4) and then you can put whatever shatter or wax you want in them (including making your own concentrate so you KNOW what goes into them).

is your co-worker vaping the MJ oils from the OCS?
if so, they are not meant for that
they are all made with a vegetable oil base, for eating
not a great idea to vape/smoke vegetable oil

reports of the pen type vapes exploding
I don't think the battery and tank types do that

LOL i'm pretty sure the OP meant vape pens and refills like these:

Beats me. It's actually a co-worker, not a "co-worker" who's using it. She was referring to CBD oil? Same?

yes
I've been using CBD - no THC oil for about year - foot injury
all the available - legal oils in the government run stores have a base oil
they should not be smoked or vaped
there are currently no pure MJ extracts legally sold, like oil or shatter etc....

Thanks guys.

@Xhumeka....yes those are the types I had in mind. However the more I read the more concerned I get about the quality of the vape liquid as seems there’s a lot of garbage flying around inside of it.

Not sure what’s involved in making your own but still early stages of just researching so need to learn more.

Is totally nature! You plant the seed, kill all the males, deprive the girls of sex and they produce all the essential oils you seek.

Thanks guys.

it's a matter of stripping the resins from the plant material
then removing whatever solvent was used to strip

the resin is not water soluble, so typically a mineral spirit is used
and then boiled off to leave pure resin - the extract

needless to say, it's a tricky, and potentially dangerous endeavor

Rosin is my fav type of concentrate and doesn't require ANY solvent...

Perhaps the most important reason why rosin has been so widely adopted is the sheer simplicity of this technology, allowing enthusiasts with no background in chemistry or botanical extractions to try it out for themselves with minimal risk.
Rosin can be made almost anywhere, and requires nothing more than the following items:

 1. A hair straightener
 2. A bit of parchment paper
 3. A collection tool
 4. Some heat-resistant gloves (safety first!).

@Xhumeka - interesting method for sure. Haven't seen it in my research but it's only been a week or so. The cleanest oil/wax that I was able to find is with CO2 which is by Pure Pull....but I haven't seen any other ones that use it. It's the same one that my buddy has and highly recommends so might try that as it's only $100. The PAX3 is from another friend but he doesn't use oils because they're not legal in Canada so he uses it to burn actual plant and says he likes it. Might give both a whirl prior to deciding.

@Trials - LOL nice...easy peasy!
