Bittersweet watching the last live glimpse as the solar array unfolded .

First light is 6 months out as the align the multiple mirrors to a single image but I'm sure we will see some early images from a single mirror.

The next hurdle is getting the sun shield unfolded and oriented once it reaches the LaGrange point in about a month. Then lots of shakedown work.
The images will provide exciting work for a generation of astronomers and astrophysicists.

Looks exciting. Always fascinated by space exploration.
Hopefully no one was eating a greasy sandwhich before packing that up and left a fingerprint smung, that would be a bummer.

I’ve been considering a drive down the coast with the hopes of catching a launch at the end but obviously that’s hoping the launch date goes as planned

If the launch doesn’t happen at least you have a cool drive to enjoy. My buddy flew down to catch a launch of the shuttle once….he paid for a flight, hotel, and saw no launch.

Absolutely would be worth it just for the drive but seeing the launch would be icing on the cake! Can’t get greedy though

If you're into it, you should go even without seeing a launch. I went down to Cape Canaveral, stayed in Cocoa Beach, did the full guided tour of Kennedy Space Center. Totally worth it, you get bussed around the whole complex and get to walk around right on the launch sites. The history is palpable and you really can't imagine the sheer size of everything.

Website where you can follow the progress of the telescope as well as the deployment of various phases of the telescope as it cruises to it's final L2 orbit almost 1,000,000 miles from earth. So far, so good on the deployment. I hope the rest goes just as well. Fascinating stuff!

That would almost be as bad as Perkin Elmer's big eff up with the Hubble mirror.

Seems Webb has reached full deployment

I just realized that Webb will not be orbiting Earth, like the Hubble was, but rather orbiting the Sun !!

That would explain the greater expectations.
