So...im not into new fangled technology...gime a bike i'll work on it...the interweb / programming / FTP etc isn't my forte.

Anyways.

I want to know if there is anyway I can setup a webcam at home to watch my Child from work? Something free would be great.

I'm gone for upto 6 hours a day, and would prefer to keep a eye on my little one.

Child = dog..

What phone do you have? Couple of apps to view remotely on your phone/iphone/ipad from a webcam. I only know as I was looking into this too while our dog was sick.

Are you crating the dog or letting him/her run free?

We had a woman at my old work place that watched her kid at daycare. We thought it was creepy as hell.

Anyways, get a Qsee camera system, they are fairly cheap from tiger direct. You can log in through I.E. or through your phone using Meye app.

I use it at both my stores.

crate. He loves it already..so its not an issue.

Might let him run free when he is a bit older.

Alot of people do that now. Daycares are offering it as a service for the parents.

A co worker used to log on at different times of the day to "check" in.

Checking in is fine, but constantly watching the kid for an 8hr shift is too much don't ya think.

If you crate, crate for life. We only leave our dog "free to roam" for very short outings. He loves his crate it's his room. I doubt you will have anything to worry about that will require video monitoring.

We have a couple of these in the house - purchased for two dogs we had that were pregnant, so we could keep an eye on when they went into labour while we were at work: D-Link DCS-932L

It works in the dark as well, so you don't need to leave lights on, and it has microphone, so you can listen. D-Link has a web site that you log into securely to monitor your camera(s) as well as a smartphone app to do the same.

Network connection can be either wired or wireless, but it does not support Power-Over-Ethernet, so you'll need an electrical outlet nearby.

hey OP - I used old laptops in the past with regular webcams hooked up. I watched my pups via ustream.tv.
Saw lots of fun moments on the video including two of them singing together, first older dog escaping from her cage (twice) and her helping second dog to open the cage and let him free :D
